Celebrating Our 2026 Scholarship Recipients!

This summer, we had the pleasure of hearing from three outstanding local students who were selected to receive $1,500 scholarships from the Jayhawk Breakfast Rotary Club as they take the next steps in their education.

🌟 Riley O’Neill – Bishop Seabury Academy
Riley is attending Nebraska Wesleyan University and plans to pursue a degree in either Nursing or Exercise Science on a pre-physical therapy track.

🌟 Andrew Shenouda – Lawrence High School
Andrew is attending the University of Kansas, majoring in Exercise Science on a pre-physical therapy track and minoring in Business.

🌟 Ashley Zwiener – Lawrence Free State High School
Ashley is beginning her studies at Johnson County Community College before transferring to the University of Kansas to pursue a degree in Social Work.

Our scholarship recipients are selected not only for their academic goals, but also for their demonstrated commitment to leadership, citizenship, and community service—qualities that reflect Rotary’s motto, “Service Above Self.”

Each year, Jayhawk Breakfast Rotary awards four $1,500 scholarships: one presented in conjunction with our MLK Community Breakfast and three awarded to graduating high school seniors planning to continue their education at a vocational school, two-year college, or four-year university.

We loved having Riley, Andrew, and Ashley join us this summer and share their plans for the future. We’re proud to support these young leaders and can’t wait to see where their education and commitment to service take them! 💙💛

Congratulations, Riley, Andrew, and Ashley! 🎉

Five Jayhawk Breakfast Rotarians spent their Saturday morning connecting, learning, and kicking off a new Rotary year at the Rotary District 5710 Team Seminar right here in Lawrence! 💙💛

Team Seminar brought Rotarians from across the district together to hear from our new District Governor, Michele Sink, learn more about Rotary and District 5710, share ideas, and explore how we can “Create Lasting Impact” in our clubs and communities.

We’re proud to have five Jayhawk Breakfast Rotary members representing our club this morning!

📸 Pictured left to right: Stan Rasmussen, Shania Lopez-Cabrera, Sam Goodell, Larry Stoppel, and Aaron Bennett.

They’ll be bringing new ideas, connections, and inspiration back to our club as we continue another year of Service Above Self and making a difference in our community.

And Rotary knows how to make a Saturday morning seminar a little more fun — donuts, coffee, brunch, mimosas, and Bloody Marys! ☕🍩🥂

Last night, three members of the Jayhawk Breakfast Rotary Club had the privilege of serving families staying at Mount Hope (a Family Promise temporary housing facility). Annas Boyer, Cinda Darwin, and Agnes Phoebe Muyanga provided dinner, delivered groceries, and, most importantly, spent time visiting with the families.

Family Promise is dedicated to helping families experiencing homelessness achieve sustainable independence by providing emergency shelter, meals, and individualized case management. We’re grateful for the opportunity to support their mission and to share an evening of fellowship, kindness, and hope.

Thank you, Annas, Cinda, and Agnes, for representing our club and living out Rotary’s motto: Service Above Self! 💙💛

A new Rotary year is officially underway! 💙💛

At last week’s meeting, we welcomed our new Jayhawk Breakfast Rotary Club President, Shania, as she shared her vision and goals for the year ahead. She also took us on a personal journey through her life, showing how Rotary shaped her from a young age through the Rotary Youth Exchange program and inspired a lifelong passion for service.

Her story was a wonderful reminder that Rotary doesn’t just change communities—it changes lives. We look forward to a year of friendship, service, and making a positive impact together under Shania’s leadership.

We were also delighted that her wife, Irene, could join us for this special meeting.

Here’s to another great year of Service Above Self! 🌎🤝

As the Rotary year comes to a close, we extend our heartfelt thanks to our outgoing president, Annas Boyer, for an incredible year of leadership.

Under Annas’s guidance, our club met—and in many cases exceeded—our goals, strengthening our impact in our community and beyond. She also brought her own unique flare to every meeting, filling our fellowship with music. From arrival playlists and music trivia to walk-up songs for our greeters, she reminded us that service is even more meaningful when it’s shared with joy.

To celebrate the end of her presidential year, Annas was joined by her family. Her daughter and a friend opened the meeting with beautiful live music, and you’ll catch a glimpse of that special performance in this video.

Please join us in thanking Annas for her dedication, leadership, and the lasting impact she has made on the Jayhawk Breakfast Rotary Club. We are grateful for a fantastic year!

⚙️🌎 A Special International Rotary Visit! 🌎⚙️
Last week, the Jayhawk Breakfast Rotary Club had the pleasure of welcoming Sergio Arnedo (Rauch Rotary Club) and his daughter, Josefina, from Argentina through the Rotary Friendship Exchange program.

Hosted by our own Pat Roach-Smith, they experienced Kansas hospitality, participated in many Rotary events (including banner exchanges), and enjoyed their first visit to the United States. A highlight of their trip was attending the Argentina vs. Algeria World Cup match and celebrating Argentina’s victory! ⚽🇦🇷

The Rotary Friendship Exchange program creates opportunities for cultural immersion, international understanding, and lifelong friendships among Rotarians around the world.

Thank you, Sergio and Josefina, for visiting us. We loved having you in Lawrence and hope to see you again someday!

Building more than just a fence 💪🏽

Rotarians Bob Rhoton, Craig Penzler, and Doug Paul teamed up with 8 Free State High School students to construct a privacy fence at the newest Family Promise home in Lawrence. From hands-on mentoring to real-world skills, this project made a lasting impact—on both the home and the students.
