Join us on Monday, October 7 at 6:00 PM at Watson Library, 3 West, for a fascinating talk by Dr. John Gruesser (Keane University) on "The Art of Collaboration: Kansas Artist Robert E. Bell and Novelist Sutton E. Griggs."

This presentation will dive into the creative partnership between Bell and Griggs, with a focus on Bell's illustrations for Griggs’s 1905 novel, The Hindered Hand. Discover how their work together influenced both their artistic and literary careers!

🎉 Congratulations to R.S.A. Garcia, the 2024 Theodore Sturgeon Memorial Award Winner! 🎉

We are thrilled to announce that R.S.A. Garcia has won this year’s Sturgeon Award for her story, “Tantie Merle and the Farmhand 4200”, published by Uncanny Magazine. Described by jurors as “inventive, humorous, and moving,” Garcia’s story stood out among many exceptional entries!

Join us for the Sturgeon Award Ceremony on October 24th at 3:30 pm at the Hall Center for the Humanities in Lawrence, KS. The event will feature a reading by Garcia, a Q&A, and a celebration of speculative fiction. 🌠

🎉 Imagining Our Futures: A Community Art Exhibition 🎉

Join us for a unique event celebrating creativity and community at the Lawrence Arts Center on Friday, September 20, 2024, from 5-7 pm!

Enjoy a reception, exhibition viewing, and staged readings at the Black Box Theater, featuring works from the Imagining Our Futures Artifact Collection. 🌠

Earlier this year, the AfroRithm Futures Group hosted storytelling sessions with the Lawrence and KU communities to envision more equitable futures. Now, see these imaginative visions brought to life by local artists!

We are excited to announce the finalists for this year's Theodore Sturgeon Memorial Award, which honors outstanding short science fiction stories. This year’s finalists include:

Registration is now open for the 3rd Annual Sturgeon Symposium, Oct 24-25, celebrating the groundbreaking work of author and critic Samuel R. Delany.

The symposium will include a reading by the winner of the Sturgeon Award for best speculative fiction story published in 2023, scholarly panels, and appearances by Delany himself.

T-shirt, lunch, and Thursday reception included with registration. Fee waiver available for students and others with financial need. Join us!
