The Lawrence Art Guild is looking for friendly, dependable volunteers to help throughout the weekend with a variety of tasks, including assisting artists, hospitality, setup and cleanup, and more.

The City of Lawrence is seeking an artist or artist team to design and create the 2026 Phoenix Award—a one-of-a-kind artwork celebrating individuals who have made outstanding contributions to our community through the arts.

💰 Project Budget: $5,000 (all-inclusive)
🏆 Deliverables: Create six Phoenix Awards—one for each award recipient and one for display.

The Lawrence Art Guild’s All Members’ Show highlights and recognizes a wide range of talented members, bringing together a dynamic cross-section of artists, diverse in medium and degree of establishment. The Members’ Show is held twice a year with a Spring Show at Landmark National Bank at their Gallery 4621 on West 6th Street in Lawrence, and a Fall Show at C***r Gallery at 810 Pennsylvania Street in Lawrence. Members range from emerging artists to established and international artists, from painters and photographers to sculptors and mixed media artists.

Maria Martin’s beautiful collages and paintings will be on display along with over 20 other artists' artwork at Art Emergency for the Lawrence Art Guild’s Art Spaces - Studio Tours event this weekend (May 2nd and 3rd).

Maria - “As an artist, the unpredictability and sense of discovery is very exciting, and one of the reasons why I do what I do,” Martin said. “My ultimate goal is to create a work that engages the viewer and takes them on their journey.”
Martin is partial to mixed media art, acrylic paintings and collages. The thoughtful layering of different materials makes her work endlessly explorable and dynamic. Look long enough at her pieces and you may catch her use of handmade paper, or the distinct textures derived from acrylic paint on malleable mediums.
“With a collage painting, the things that inspire me begin to form the backgrounds within my windows, and the windows tell the story,” Martin said. “I allow my intuition to guide me as I build up the layers and the painting.”

Art Spaces – Studio Tours Event is this weekend!
Saturday - May 2nd 10am to 6pm
Sunday - May 3rd 11am to 6pm

Art Spaces is a free two-day event in which participating artists open their studio doors to give the local community a more intimate peak at their creative processes and environments.
