Superintendent Dr. Anthony Lewis announced this week February and March School Principals of the Month, including Jackie Mickel, Langston Hughes Elementary.

Staff described her as a great example, always there for everyone, and someone who puts others first. They appreciate the time she puts into recognizing staff and helping them to recognize one another. "Jackie ensures that her staff is doing what is expected, but she allows for creativity, teacher personality, and each individual's teaching style. She really lets everyone be themselves!" they wrote in nominations.

Other staff noted that Mickel is fair and models humility and continual professional learning by being honest about what she doesn't know yet and seeking to learn and understand more. "Jackie is encouraging, dedicated to professional growth for all staff members, cultivates an inclusive and safe environment for all students (and staff), and is committed to utilizing data to support students and staff at Langston Hughes,” they wrote.

In addition to her dedication to Langston Hughes, Mickel is our district elementary principal lead this year, supporting her elementary principal colleagues. Thank you, Mrs. Mickel!

Team STEAM Robotics, the district's robotics team, competed at FIRST's Heartland FRC Regional with 35 other teams from across the midwest. The team emerged from qualifying matches as the third-highest scoring robot. They were picked up by the third seed alliance with the Park Hill Trobots and JC Harmon Digital Hawks. Although the team was knocked out in the semifinals, it won two elimination matches for the first time!
