When 9-year-old Lydia heard about Foster Village Northeast KS through her mom’s work with Douglas County CASA, Inc.-KS, she knew she wanted to help by hosting a lemonade stand.

"Foster Village made it easy by providing a kit," says Lydia's father Kevin.

To drum up traffic on their quiet street, they made a Facebook event and texted friends and family to spread the word.

Friends stopped by to hang out, help pour lemonade, and learn more about the work Foster Village does to support foster families in the community.

Kevin hopes their experience inspires other entrepreneurial kids like Lydia to host their own lemonade stands.

This year’s plan? "More cookies," Lydia says. They were a hit.

Our next Topeka Moms Support Group is coming up on Monday, June 15th from 6-8 PM at First Southern Baptist Church.

Come unwind, connect, and be reminded that you're not alone on this journey.

Open to all children 12 and under from foster, kinship, or reunifying families. Join us for a fun evening of games, snacks, and play, while caregivers get some well-deserved time off.

Last July, Lauri and her family hosted a lemonade stand in their Lawrence neighborhood to support Foster Village Northeast KS.

Lauri felt called to host a stand because she was impressed by the services the organization offers.

"We know several foster families, so this is a way that we could tangibly help," says Lauri.

Lauri's a music teacher and invited her students to get involved. One student and her nanny offered to help by chalking around the neighborhood ("they decorated like crazy!"). This drummed up a lot of interest from neighbors, even some they didn't know.

The same student's family generously make homemade cookies to sell. Lauri learned how to make homemade fruit syrups and sold those at well.

All it takes is a little creativity and teamwork to make a successful stand!

We're changing it up for June!

Our next Dads Night will move to Thursday, June 4th at 7:30 PM and meet at Culinaria in Lawrence, KS.

If you’re a foster, kinship, or adoptive dad, come enjoy an evening out in honor of Fathers Day and connect with others who get it.

In July, this group will resume meeting every 1st Tuesday of the month.
