Mill Cities Leadership Institute
A diverse network of socially responsible leaders and innovators
who learn from Lawrence and Lowell and serve our region
MCLI builds foundations of leadership:
Self-Awareness Exploring your own leadership strengths, underlying values, and emotional intelligence
Diversity Understanding differences that affect teams, the workplace, and society as a whole
Comm
unity Engaging local leaders, civic challenges and strengths of Lawrence and Lowell
MCLI develops key leadership abilities:
Relationships Networking to build relationships and social capital across business sectors
Innovation Identifying opportunities and approaches to new ideas for community and workplace
Influence Communicating strategically to motivate and inspire others with your vision
MCLI develops a different kind of leader. Our active “leadership lab” approach:
• Starts with active engagement with social responsibility: visiting sites in Lawrence and Lowell for quick case studies in schools, community organizations, local businesses, jails, and more
• Provides practice in the skills leaders and innovators need to develop a culture of socially responsible innovation in the workplace
• Engages a diverse group to build the emotional intelligence of a leader who can work with people from different business sectors, generations, cultural backgrounds, and walks of life
• Expands awareness of leadership styles, and builds professional confidence as a communicator, team-builder, networker, and persuader
• Challenges participants to take responsibility for their own learning through small group activities, personal goal-setting, and peer feedback
• Culminates in new personal and professional Leadership Commitments that develop with other members of the MCLI network through our Mixers and Community Showcase
