Grieving Youth and Families of the Merrimack Valley is asking our amazing community to help us prepare youth for a successful school year.

Every child deserves to walk into school feeling confident, prepared, and supported. Your generosity can make a meaningful difference in the life of a grieving child or young adult.

We are currently collecting: 🎒 Backpacks 📚 School supplies 🧩 Autism sensory supplies 🧦 New socks 🪥 Travel-size toiletries ☕ Dunkin' & Starbucks gift cards (especially for high school and new college students)

Your donation is more than a backpack or a notebook—it is a message of hope, encouragement, and love. Together, we can help our youth build confidence, achieve their educational goals, and create a brighter future.

Grief doesn't follow a calendar, and every day, someone is coping with the loss of a parent, child, sibling, grandparent, family member, or friend, and a pet🐾. If today feels especially heavy, please know you are not alone. We're sending you a heartfelt hug, love, strength, and hope. May you find comfort in the beautiful memories you hold close to your heart, and peace in knowing your loved one will never be forgotten. The past week has been heartbreaking for our city. We’ve witnessed lives lost to gun violence, domestic violence, and other tragic circumstances. Behind every headline is a son, daughter, mother, father, sibling, friend, and neighbor whose absence leaves a family forever changed. Recent incidents in Lawrence remain under investigation, including a fatal shooting and other deaths that have shaken our community. (essexcountyda.com⁠)

As a community, we cannot allow violence to become something we simply accept. We have to stand together not just after tragedy, but before it happens. We need to check on one another, support families in crisis, mentor our youth, speak up against abuse, and create more opportunities than obstacles.

To every family grieving today, please know that Lawrence grieves with you. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Let’s honor those we’ve lost by choosing compassion over hate, conversation over conflict, and hope over fear. Real change starts with all of us parents, neighbors, community leaders, organizations, law enforcement, and especially our young people.

Lawrence is stronger than violence. Together, we can build a safer community where every life is valued and every child has the opportunity to thrive.

To the families, friends, and everyone in our community, our hearts are with you during this incredibly difficult time. Every life lost is a tragedy, and when we lose someone to violence, we all lose as a community. Let’s not allow these heartbreaking moments to define who we are. Instead, let them remind us of the importance of coming together, supporting one another, and creating more opportunities, hope, and peace for our youth and our neighborhoods. Real change takes all of us families, residents, organizations, and community leaders working side by side. Together, we can build a safer, stronger Lawrence for everyone.
