Despite the importance of home maintenance, one in five homeowners report spending nothing on repairs in 2025, while another 14% invested less than $500.
For homeowners with lower incomes, even basic repairs and critical replacements are financially out of reach.
After nearly three years on Lawrence Habitat’s critical repair waiting list, Joyce is finally getting the windows she desperately needs in her home. Retired on a fixed income and raising her grandsons left Joyce with little money to address the needs of her aging home, specifically its seventeen windows. They are original to the home, have rotted frames, and are drafty, energy-inefficient, and “fixed” with plastic and duct tape. This critical repair was beyond necessary, but extremely expensive.
Joyce’s home repair is not unique. Sixty-four homeowners are currently on our list, waiting for funding to repair or replace roofs, HVAC systems, plumbing, siding, and more.
With your investment, Lawrence Habitat for Humanity can continue to provide critical home repairs for our neighbors, helping to create preserved, safe, and affordable housing. Give at https://www.lawrencehabitat.org/home-preservation today!
