After witnessing last night’s dehumanizing attack on former First Lady Michelle Obama’s dignity, NCNW stands in defense of Mrs. Obama.

We witnessed an athlete who was invited to the White House use a national platform to spew hate, ignorance, and racist rhetoric as a "joke." The silence that followed from the broadcast booth, the network, and the White House reflects a continued notion that Mrs. Obama and Black women at large are not worthy of respect or care. NCNW vehemently disagrees.

NCNW was founded on the belief that the dignity of Black women is not negotiable. Mrs. Obama is a mother, a lawyer, a humanitarian, and a former First Lady of the United States. For over a decade, she served this country with grace, intelligence, and unmatched commitment. Even in the absence of these accolades and accomplishments, she is worthy of protection.

NCNW calls on Paramount+ and the UFC to issue a clear statement regarding human decency. Black women are watching. Our families are watching. We will not stop advocating for the respect, protection, and equality of our community.
