🇺🇸 AMERICA’S 250TH CELEBRATION PARKING & EVENT INFO 🇺🇸

Hey y’all! If you’re planning to join us for Lavonia’s America’s 250th Celebration this Saturday, June 20, here are a few things you should know before you come!

🎶 Music on Main and the Drone Show will be centered around the Gazebo area, which will be the best viewing location for the evening’s festivities.

🚁 Important Parking Notice:
Journey First Baptist has graciously allowed event parking in the past, but their parking lot will be closed for this event as it will serve as the drone launch area. Please refer to the parking map for alternative parking locations.

🎉 BIG NEWS FOR LAVONIA! 🎉

Y’all, we have some exciting news to share!

In 2025, the City of Lavonia was awarded a $1 million ARC grant to help transform our downtown through streetscape improvements. While we celebrated that incredible opportunity, we also knew there would be challenges ahead as we balanced other major infrastructure needs, including water and wastewater projects.

This week, we received even more exciting news.

Governor Brian Kemp and the State Road and Tollway Authority have awarded the City of Lavonia an additional $1,000,300 through the Georgia Transportation Infrastructure Bank (GTIB) for our Downtown Streetscape Improvements Project!

That means Lavonia has now secured more than $2 million in outside funding to invest in the future of our downtown.

These improvements will:

🚶 Extend sidewalks along West Main Street and West Bowman Street

🚸 Upgrade downtown crosswalks to improve accessibility and visibility

🚦 Realign the intersections at West Avenue/Vickery Street and West Bowman Street/West Main Street to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety

♿ Improve accessibility and connectivity throughout downtown

🏙️ Support continued economic development in the heart of our community

We also want to extend our sincere appreciation to Patrick Larson and the team at the Georgia Mountains Regional Commission. Their guidance, expertise, and support have been instrumental in helping Lavonia pursue funding opportunities like this. GMRC continues to be an incredible asset to our community, and we are grateful for their partnership.

While we are still in the engineering and planning phase of the streetscape project, we know this investment will have a lasting impact on Lavonia’s future. Major projects like this require years of planning, coordination, and vision. In fact, this streetscape effort began in 2021 and has been a working project ever since. Progress doesn’t happen overnight, but each step brings us closer to creating a safer, more accessible, and more vibrant downtown.

For a small town, this is a tremendous blessing. These investments will help ensure that Downtown Lavonia remains a place where businesses can thrive, families can gather, and visitors can experience the charm and hospitality that make our community special.

I often say that Lavonia is punching above its weight, and this is another example of what can happen when a community dreams big, works together, and pursues opportunities that position us for the future.

The future of Lavonia is bright, and we’re excited to continue moving forward together.

Today we were honored to attend the Juneteenth celebration at Springview Heights Park & Gym, an event organized each year by Linda Barnes.

Nathan joined me today representing the Lavonia DDA, and we were pleased to see Marie and Robert with the Historic Preservation Commission, along with Daniel Brown, a friend and supporter of HPC, in attendance as well.

Linda has been an active contributor to our Historic Preservation Commission, sharing her passion for history and historic preservation. She has helped preserve and celebrate the stories that make our community unique, while also bringing people together through events such as today’s celebration.

Thank you, Linda, for your dedication to our community, its history, and its people.

🤠🔍🎶 Y’all, what a fun night in Downtown Lavonia!

Yesterday was Crimes, Clues, & Country Tunes - Music on Main , and we were thrilled to partner with the Lavonia Police Department to bring a detective scavenger hunt to downtown. Lieutenant Wayne Mitchum truly knocked it out of the park with his creativity and hard work. It was so much fun watching families, friends, and even a few competitive detectives work together to solve the case!

Now let’s be honest… it was HOT, y’all! 🥵 But that didn’t stop us from having a great time.

We kicked off the evening with Caleb Hunnicutt and then enjoyed an incredible performance from Sam Godfrey. We are so thankful for the country tunes, great entertainment, and the energy both musicians brought to our community.

A huge thank you to our wonderful vendors, downtown businesses, volunteers, and everyone who came out to support another Music on Main. We create these events to give our community a place to gather, make memories, laugh a little, and enjoy time together—and seeing so many smiling faces reminds us exactly why we do it.

It’s safe to say she has a much better eye for photography than I do—you’ll definitely notice the difference between her photos and mine! (Hers is the first half and mine is obviously the second half 😂)

🌽🍅 We have some incredible farmers at the Lavonia Depot Farmers Market! These hardworking folks spend countless hours planting, tending, and harvesting to bring the freshest produce straight to our community. A huge shoutout to Lieutenant Wayne Mitchum for creating such a fun and engaging Detective Scavenger Hunt in Downtown Lavonia! 🕵️‍♂️🔍

Mayor Courtney Umbehant, and I took it upon ourselves to crack the case, and we had an absolute blast! Everywhere we went, we ran into others who were playing along, and every single person had wonderful things to say about the experience.

I also want to say how incredibly thankful I am for the opportunity to partner with the Lavonia Police Department. I came to Lieutenant Mitchum with a crazy idea, and instead of simply saying yes, he took it and absolutely ran with it. His creativity, attention to detail, and dedication transformed a simple concept into an interactive experience that had people exploring downtown, meeting new people, and having a great time.

His hard work was evident in every clue, every stop, and every detail of the case. It was such a unique addition to our Music on Main event and truly showcased the positive impact community partnerships can have.

Thank you, Lieutenant Mitchum, for embracing the vision, bringing it to life, and helping create an unforgettable night in Downtown Lavonia. We appreciate you and all that you do for our community! 💙🚔🎶
