The Town of Maxton, in coordination with the Maxton Police Department, announces the adoption of a Juvenile Curfew Ordinance to help ensure the safety, protection, and welfare of our youth and community.
Purpose of the Ordinance:
This ordinance is designed to promote public safety and reduce juvenile-related incidents during late evening and nighttime hours.
Definitions:
• Juvenile: Any person under the age of 18.
• Public Place: Includes any street, sidewalk, alley, park, playground, public building, or any private or public area open to the general public within the Town of Maxton.
Curfew Hours:
It shall be unlawful for any juvenile to be in a public place between 8:00 PM and 6:00 AM, Sunday through Saturday, unless accompanied by a parent, guardian, or authorized adult.
Violations:
A violation of curfew occurs when a juvenile is found in a public place within the Town of Maxton during curfew hours without adult supervision.
Law enforcement officers are authorized to stop and take immediate custody of any juvenile in violation of this curfew. The juvenile will be released only to a parent, guardian, or parent-approved adult, or may be handled in accordance with state law and town policy.

• Monetary fine
• Participation in a Parent Responsibility or Juvenile Intervention Program
• Community service requirements
Exemptions:
The curfew does not apply to juveniles who are:
✅ Accompanied by a parent, guardian, or approved adult
✅ Traveling to or from employment
✅ Attending or traveling to/from school, church, or official town activities
✅ Responding to emergencies or running errands directed by a parent or guardian
