The by-laws for West Laurel Civic Association (WLCA) note that the purpose of the organization is to protect and improve the community, including addressing quality of life issues, to participate in the civic activities and affairs affecting the West Laurel area, and to interact with government, not endorsing political parties or specific candidates.

To that end, WLCA is hosting an information session on “Keeping Everyone Safe in an Immigration Enforcement Era.” The ex*****on of immigration policies in the country has generated questions and concerns for members of our community. This is a quality-of-life issue for members of our community.

The intended purpose of this session is not to debate or cast blame on this topic. The purpose of the meeting is to provide information on the issues, challenges, and questions. The purpose of the meeting is to be informed, know how to prepare for encounters, and how to act in a manner that keeps everyone safe.

Prince George’s County Police and legal experts will share information so you can:

• Be Informed
• Prepare
• Take Action Safely
• Know Resources

West Laurel is a great community, with a diverse population. Families interact through affiliations formed around our children, our street, and our common interests. We interact as a community and as neighbors. We support one another every day by our acts of kindness; a wave, a smile, and sharing stories. We can keep our community safe by showing respect to all people, regardless of immigration status and uniting in purpose and civility.

REMINDER!!! The West Laurel Civic Association is having their first ever Craft Faire this Saturday, November 15, from 9am to 2pm at the Community Building. Admission is free! 🎉

We will have more than 30 vendors inside and outside, as well as Mexican food for lunch, and ten gift baskets to raffle off! The vendors all make their own handcrafts, so come support small businesses and get your holiday shopping started. 🛍️

Children are welcome - not only will is there table space to write and "mail" a letter to Santa, we have a vendor who sells (and applies) beautiful, temporary, glitter tattoos for children - or adults who are young at heart. 🎅🏼

Do bring cash for the raffles, and we'll see you there to purchase yummy foods such as cakes, sweets, bagels, sourdough and other holiday breads; jewelry of all types and styles; woodworking; bird houses; crochet; locally made honey; candles, painting; placemats and other sewn items; soaps; pens of various styles; purses; glassware; decorative flowers and more! Truly, there is something for everyone. 🍰🍯🕯️

Join the West Laurel Walking Club on Fridays at 10:00am for a safe and enjoyable walk with your neighbors. The group walks about a mile and a half at the Fairland Park Trail or the city of Laurel Rive Park Trail. Dogs on a leash invited. For more information, e-mail Nancy Whipple at

The presentation covers an overview of the project, recent milestones, ongoing pipeline work and paving/restoration plans. While we had hoped to begin paving next week, the colder weather will prevent this from happening. To ensure an effective application of roadway asphalt, we plan to begin final paving in spring 2025. Paving work should take approximately five weeks to complete.
