KidKoders

KidKoders KidKoders is a non-profit organization introducing minority boys and girls to the possibilities of co Classes run year long using quarterly sessions.

KidKoders was founded in 2015 in Laurel, MD as a non-profit organization introducing minority boys and girls to the opportunities of coding, knowing that such skills are needed to succeed in tomorrow's tech driven economy. The program is taught by veteran programmers using a curriculum specially designed for children aged 5 and up. We use a hands on practical approach using age appropriate coding exercises.

We're glad to be back this spring for another six weeks of kids ! This session we welcomed our "youngest" KidKoders ever, John Glennon who at 80 and a retired programmer for in the 60s, wants to learn coding again. Coding is really for all to enjoy from 7 to 77, under and over. He shared some insights from his time at IBM where they discovered that could be successfully taught to non-traditional technical staff and it's an insight we totally believe in at KidKoders. Coding will call on logic, abstract thinking and creative skills that we all have and you don't need to be a math wiz to become a good coder. Just ask our first timers Kennedy, Isabella and Blaise who rocked it during our second all girls session. It's going to be a fun 6 weeks. We started 3 years ago in a basement daycare, and here we are today a full fledged 501c3 having a real impact in our community. Our free Saturday program has helped introduce about 200 kids in our community to coding and we're hoping to reach more in 2019. Thank you all for the appreciation and support over the year. If you're looking for a way to support STEM and encourage more kids to take up coding, consider supporting us at the link below:

We started in July 2015 out of our kids' daycare in Laurel MD with only one thing in mind: introduce our kids to coding and prepare them for the opportunities and careers of tomorrow in the world of technology. This was initially a friends' and family affair and based on the feedback and results...

Lively session this Saturday. Sometimes they get frustrated, but as anybody with experience knows, it's really about the perseverance. The mind is a magical thing and it's a pleasure when you see it unlock.

Winding down our Spring Session 2018. On top of our regular students making great progress in learning coding, our project teams learned first thing the difficulties of writing app code as they ran into structural issues that required them to completely refactor their code to make it work they way they envisioned, and in the end, they will have to delay their presentation. This is invaluable experience and the whole point of why we are doing this.
