Coalition brought together, like-minded people from all over North Carolina with the same agenda to get our schools in North Carolina funded. Losing money for public school plays apart in our day-to-day lives, but most of all it plays apart in the growth and livelihood of our children. This is just a small view of many different thoughts and conversations that will lead to change.

T.O.U.R.’s Topic of the Day:

Reality Over Algorithms

Social media can make anything feel bigger, louder, and more dramatic than it really is. What many people don’t realize is that algorithms pick up on your emotions — frustration, sadness, confusion — and then show you posts that “agree” with how you feel. It’s not truth… it’s programming.

So when you’re going through something and you feel like someone mistreated you or a situation feels unfair, stepping online can actually make it seem worse. The internet will send you videos, quotes, and opinions that match your mood, not the reality.

But real life is layered. Sometimes a situation needs a private conversation, a pause to think, or a look from another perspective — things you won’t get from scrolling.

Be mindful:
Social media can support your feelings, but not always the facts. Everything online isn’t 100% accurate or reflective of your actual circumstances. Protect your peace, check in with real people, and stay grounded in truth — not the algorithm.

T.O.U.R.’s Topic of the Day: Scotland County Strength

Even in a small rural county like Scotland, our strength is in how we show up for each other. From checking on our elders, to sharing a meal, to supporting our students and schools — community really is our greatest resource.

When we support local events, small businesses, and neighborhood programs, we’re not just “being nice” — we’re building a stronger future for our families right here at home. 💛🌾

T.O.U.R.’s Today’s Topic: Staying Safe in a Time of Gun Violence

Gun violence is affecting too many of our youth and families. We can’t control everything, but we can make safer choices every day.

🔸 Make safer choices
• Watch the company you keep.
• Walk away when things feel off.
• Don’t let pride pull you into danger.

🔸 Be aware of your surroundings
• Pay attention when you enter a space.
• Keep your head up, not always in your phone.
• Trust your gut — if it feels wrong, move.

🔸 Communicate
• Speak up if you hear or see something concerning.
• Check on friends who seem angry or stressed.
• Talk to an adult or mentor you trust.

At T.O.U.R., we want our youth to stay safe, stay aware, and stay alive.
We’re here if you need support. 🧡

💡 T.O.U.R.’s Topic of the Day: Understanding SSI Benefits for Children with Disabilities

Raising a child with autism, a speech delay, or another disability can come with extra challenges — and families deserve support. Did you know your child may qualify for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) through the Social Security Administration (SSA)?

Applying is easier than many think. You can call the SSA’s toll-free line or schedule an appointment at your local office. The SSA may reach out to your child’s medical or mental health providers for documentation to help with their review.

You can go through the process on your own, or work with an SSI or disability representative who can guide you through each step.

This post is here to inform and empower, not to provide legal advice — just to remind families that help is out there, and you don’t have to navigate it alone. 💙
