✏️ Side-Notes:

Inheriting the Kingdom of God is not based on “natural” moral perfection, because everyone has fallen short. It is reserved for those who are “washed and justified” by Christ and who seek to live a life transformed by the Holy Spirit.

God wants us to walk in humility not to be humiliated! Walking in humility is an humble admission free of pride or arrogance that we can’t do anything without God. Being humiliated is to be shamed, disgraced, and dishonored.

📖 DEVOID:
-being without a usual, typical, or expected attribute or accompaniment —used with of

-Synonyms:
bankrupt, bare, barren, bereft, destitute, void

-Antonyms:
filled, flush, fraught, full, replete, rife

YV Footnotes 📕: This was the first of Jesusʼ long messages. The message began with Jesus gathering his disciples together on a mountainside. He taught them how to live as part of the kingdom of heaven. He started by saying what kind of people would be part of the kingdom of heaven. This kingdom is very different from how human kingdoms or governments work. It isnʼt for people who are proud and think they donʼt need God. It isnʼt for people who use their strength to make others suffer. It isnʼt for people who are only committed to their own happiness. Jesus knows that many people have been treated badly and are suffering. Many are sad. Many know that they need Godʼs help. Many people are longing for justice and peace to fill the earth. Many understand what God cares deeply about. They do what God wants done even when itʼs hard. Jesus said all these people are blessed. They are Godʼs children. He will comfort them and show them mercy. They are part of the kingdom of heaven.

✏️ Side-Notes:

Hope in God is not wishful thinking, but an anchor for the soul. It’s enduring confidence in His promises, providing strength during difficult times and peace in the assurance of His unfailing love.

Resting in God provides a firm foundation that cannot be shaken. The Father promises renewed strength and endurance for those who wait on the Lord.

God’s help to guard our mind, replacing anxious thoughts with His “perfect peace”, and help us maintain mental composure.

With the indwelling of the Holy Spirit we have the ability to actively intercept racing or overwhelming thoughts and filter them through the truth of Christ.

Mental composure is an ongoing transformation and renewal process, rather than just an instant one time fix because our minds have to be continually stayed on Christ.

GRACE 🌱= GROWING 🌿

Being “built up” in Christ describes spiritual growth rooted in God’s power.

We can find courage and comfort in challenging times.

Grace is l God’s unmerited favor, a free, unconditional gift of love, forgiveness, and strength given to humanity.

YV Footnotes 📕: Paul talked about a believer who had a vision from God. God showed this person things in the heavenly world. Then Paul told his readers that the believer was in fact himself. The false teachers and super-apostles bragged about the visions they had. They used their visions as proof that they were better than Paul. But Paul didnʼt brag about his vision. Paul had a problem that caused him pain and suffering. It made him weak in his body. He didnʼt say what this problem was. Paul prayed and asked God to take the problem away. But God chose not to take it away. Instead Jesus comforted Paul by making it clear that he was with him. Jesusʼ grace helped Paul to keep going. Whether or not Godʼs work was done didnʼt depend on Paulʼs abilities. It depended on the power of Jesus.

✏️ Side-Notes:

WE NEED OBEDIENCE TO UNDERSTAND ‼️

We need to be built up in the Spirit with spiritual growth through faith, prayer, and the Holy Spirit.

Obedience to God is an expression of love and trust rather than just a set of rules to follow.

Understanding divine warfare strategies requires complete reliance in God with spiritual readiness, wielding God’s truth, and relying on His supernatural power rather than physical might. We must replace negative mental strongholds with divine truth and actively standing firm in faith.

🔑 Core Strategies for Engaging in Spiritual Battles:

1️⃣Wielding Divine Weapons: Rather than human force, believers are equipped with divine power to destroy mental strongholds and align thoughts with Christ (2 Corinthians 10:3-5).

2️⃣Put On Spiritual Armor: The strategy involves proactively utilizing divine protection to resist deception and spiritual, rather than physical, opposition (Ephesians 6:11-13).

3️⃣Submission and Resistance: Victory is achieved by submitting to God’s authority and standing firm, which causes the enemy to flee (James 4:7).

4️⃣Relying on Divine Defense: Trusting in God to fight on your behalf (Exodus 14:14) and relying on His training for spiritual conflict (Psalm 144:1)

AMP Footnotes 📕: …Our God is a redeeming God who knows how to deal with sin. Although there is no rebellion that goes beyond His reach, the remedy has to be His. The first step in obedience is repentance- turning away from the direction we are going in order to see God.

✏️ Side-Notes:

Bearing fruit represents the outward evidence of a believer’s faith and inner transformation.

The fruit is intended to be lasting and is a result of being chosen and appointed by Christ.

A person’s inward character or false teachings will be naturally revealed by their outward actions and the consequences of their lives.

🔑 The Source of the Fruit:

The Apostle Paul contrasts the “works of the flesh” (sinful nature) with the “fruit of the Spirit”. You cannot produce spiritual fruit through sheer willpower; it is a natural byproduct of allowing the Holy Spirit to transform you from the inside out

🔑 The Call to Good Works & Character:

Scripture uses agricultural metaphors to describe spiritual life, where bearing fruit signifies righteousness and a life honoring to God.

YV Footnotes 📕: Jesus spoke to his disciples about vines and branches. He said I am the true vine. This was His last I am statement in Johnʼs gospel. Jesus wants His followers to remain connected to Him like branches are to a vine. That is the only way they can bear the fruit that God wants from them. That fruit is love for each other. Itʼs also doing the works that Jesus did as He taught and served people. Jesus was teaching the disciples His way of love. His way is to give His own life for others. He trusted the disciples as His friends. He shared with them the love between the Father and Himself. But Jesus warned them about people who donʼt love God. Those who donʼt love Jesus donʼt love God. They wonʼt love Jesusʼ followers either. Jesus didnʼt want the disciples to be surprised when some people hated them. When that happened, the Holy Spirit would help them. The Spirit would be their friend like Jesus was their friend.

✏️ Side-Notes:

“Fear” does not mean being terrified of God. It refers to a deep sense of reverence, awe, and respect for God’s holiness, along with making a conscious choice to turn away from evil. The core message is that true wisdom and understanding start with acknowledging God, recognizing His authority, and submitting to His ways.

Just as the sky stretches vastly above the earth, God’s perspective spans eternity. His purposes often operate on a timeline and scale we cannot immediately see.

We have an invitation to lean on His perfect nature and surrender our human anxiety when life does not make sense.

🔑 Key Themes About God Giving Wisdom to Those Who Ask:

1️⃣Generous Giving: God doesn’t hold back; He pours out wisdom liberally.

2️⃣No Reproach: He gives “without finding fault” or scolding you for asking.

3️⃣The Condition: You simply need to ask God sincerely.

✏️ Side-Notes:

Biblical stewardship is the practice of managing everything God has entrusted to us. Including time, talents, and finances that are all for His glory. This core principle teaches that God owns everything, and we are simply called to be faithful caretakers.

Giving should be a joyful, generous, and act of worship to glorify God, not seeking self recognition or praise. The focus is on the heart behind the offering not the amount.

Tithing is giving a tenth of your income or produce as an act of worship, trust, and obedience.

When Jesus fulfilled the law in the New Testament, the focus shifts from a strict legal requirements to generous and cheerful giving from the heart.

YV Footnotes 📕: Paulʼs instructions about the offering teach what it means to give freely. Believers arenʼt forced to give their money or their possessions to others in need. They give because they follow Godʼs example of giving freely. They give because they want to help people. Believers give because they understand that everything they have is a gift from God. These are the same reasons that the Israelites gave a tenth of everything that they had. That was required in the Law of Moses. Giving freely shows that believers trust God to provide what they need. They trust Him for things like food that their bodies need. They trust Him for things like love and grace that their spirits need. Believers also trust God for the ability to obey him. Paul described good works like seeds that believers plant. He said that God provides this seed. This means that God gives believers the ability to give to others. God is in charge of what happens after believers do good to others. The Lordʼs people in Jerusalem faced very hard times. They didnʼt have enough money or food. The gift of money from the Gentile churches would help them. The Jewish believers would thank God and praise Him for the gift. They would pray for the Gentile believers who had shared with them.

✏️ Side-Notes:

Surrendering to God’s will means letting go of control and trusting His plan.

God goes before us to remove obstacles and establish our daily path.

Humility is a core virtue that cultivates wisdom, peace, and grace, often leading to honor.

🔑 Key points that outline this journey of faith:

1️⃣ Choosing God’s Will: “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.” (Galatians 2:20)

2️⃣Presenting Your Life: “Present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.” (Romans 12:1)

3️⃣Submitting in Humility: “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7)

4️⃣Trusting the Path: “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.” (Psalm 37:5)

🔑 Key Scriptures with messages of leaning on God during different struggles:

1️⃣For Anxiety: “Cast your burden on the LORD, and He will sustain you; He will never permit the righteous to be moved.” – Psalm 55:22 (ESV)

2️⃣For Finding Peace: “Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge.” – Psalm 62:8 (NIV)

3️⃣For Comfort in Weakness: “...My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9 (ESV)

4️⃣For Daily Rest: “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28 (NIV)

✏️ Side-Notes:

🔑 3 Areas God Promises to Restore and Refresh:

1️⃣ For Soul Refreshment: Psalm 23:2-3, Jeremiah 31:25, Acts 3:19

2️⃣ For Renewed Strength: Isaiah 40:31, Matthew 11:28

3️⃣For Complete Restoration: 1 Peter 5:10, Joel 2:25

🔑 God actively guides believers in upright living ( “paths of righteousness” ). God’s unwavering covenant leads, strengthens, and establishes us in His divine truth.

God leads us not just to bless us, but to bring glory to His own character.

Believers are given the righteousness of God through faith.

Our minds are renewed as we learn more about God and reflect His character.

YV Footnotes 📕: Psalm 23 is about trusting in God. It describes God as a shepherd. Those who pray this psalm are described as sheep. The shepherd guides the sheep and makes sure they have everything that they need. The sheep face danger. But the shepherd is close to them. He protects them and comforts them. Many years later Jesus described himself as the good Shepherd (John 10:11). This psalm also describes other ways God can be trusted to take care of people. He provides good things for them. These things were described like a feast and like being anointed with oil. Each personʼs cup is too small to hold all that God provides. They can enjoy these blessings even while facing danger. Their enemies are nearby but they arenʼt chased by these enemies. Instead, Godʼs goodness and love follow them. They trust that they will live in Godʼs house for ever. The house of the Lord was the temple. This was a way to describe how close the speaker was to God.
