Emergency Rental Assistance Program-Westmoreland County On January 5, 2021, the U.S. Department of the Treasury launched the Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP).

The ERAP program is designed to assist households that are unable to pay rent and utilities due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Under the County’s ERAP an “eligible household” is defined as a renter household that has a household income at or below 80 percent of the area median and in which at least one or more individuals living in the household:

* qualifies for unemployment or has experienced a reduc

tion in household income, incurred significant costs, or experienced a financial hardship due to COVID-19; and
* can demonstrate a risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability;
* additional eligibility criteria will be added as the program is finalized.

The ERAP (Emergency Rental Assistance Program) of Westmoreland County through the Union Mission in Latrobe has been reopened for a limited time.

Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP)

ERAP has been reopened for a limited time. If you are struggling to keep up on the rent and utility bills, you can apply for assistance.

The ERAP program has helped more than 2,990 Westmoreland County households and paid out over $21 million directly to landlords, tenants, and utilities on behalf of eligible households to help prevent homelessness.

ERAP was created during the pandemic to assist renters with the financial difficulties many faced and to help them avoid loss of utilities, or eviction.

Now, the Westmoreland County, PA ERAP program has been reopened. The program will only be open for a limited time through the Union Mission in Latrobe and is available again for those who need assistance.

ERAP has been closed for exactly 1 year to the date today. However, we will continue to remind those in need that the United Way is still there to offer assistance for households in need. Call 2-1-1 for the United Way which has access to a variety of local services.

Although the Westmoreland ERAP is closed, we'll continue to remind you that the United Way Helpline is still there to assist those that need help. Households can seek assistance by contacting the United Way Helpline at 2-1-1, which has access to various local services.

The Westmoreland County Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) is permanently closed. The deadline to submit applications was in November, 2023.

The ERAP program has helped more than 2,990 Westmoreland County households and paid out over $21 million directly to landlords, tenants, and utilities on behalf of eligible households to help prevent homelessness.
