The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office wants to inform all residents and motorists of a new traffic ordinance recently passed by the Clinton County Commission.
Please take a moment to review these important changes to keep our county roads safe:
County Ordinance No. 2026-02-19 (1.1)Revised
The New Rule: The speed limit on all county-maintained roadways in Clinton County is now 40 miles per hour, unless a different speed limit is posted. =
Authority: This ordinance was passed pursuant to RSMo 49.650.1, which grants the County Commission the authority to adopt ordinances relating to roads controlled by the county.
Effective Date: This ordinance is in full force and effect in accordance with RSMo 304.010. You may see high traffic areas set at a lower speed, so please be aware of the area you're traveling.
💡 Why This Matters
Many county-maintained roads are gravel, narrow, or have blind curves and hills. Setting a baseline speed limit of 40 mph helps ensure the safety of all drivers, agricultural vehicles, and residents living along these routes.
🛑 What You Need to Do
Check your speed: If you are driving on a county road and do not see a speed limit sign, assume the limit is 40 mph.
Stay alert: Watch for newly posted signs over the coming weeks.
Remember that weather, dust, and road conditions may require you to drive even slower than the posted limit to remain safe.
Our deputies will be out monitoring compliance to ensure everyone makes it home safely. Let's work together to keep Clinton County roads safe for everyone.
