It was a super energized, exciting, and super busy weekend for us this past weekend! We had two Racing Events going on at the same time, that several of us participated in. The Jackpot Ultras, hosted by Aravaipa Running Company, and the Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series on the Las Vegas Strip.
It all started with Jackpot on Friday. One of our guides completed 100 miles in 21 hours and 35 minutes and received his finish buckle award. One of our athletes began Friday morning and never stopping until 48 hours later, clocking in 127 miles.
We had our usual Saturday morning training and 20 people showed up and got their opportunity to train and be out in the community.
Then there was the excitement and energy around picking up our Rock ‘n’ Roll race bibs at Resorts World in the days leading up to the Big Event, which took place Sunday afternoon on the Strip. Many of our athletes and guides had never experience a race event of this magnitude, so what an opportunity for them to experience this!
On Sunday morning two of our guides participated in the Scale the Strat Event at the Stratosphere Hotel Casino Tower. It’s an annual event where participants take the challenge of scaling 1455 steps inside the Stratosphere. Proceeds for this event go towards supporting the American Lung Association.
In regard to Rock ‘n’ Roll, there were approximately 30,000 participants and thousands more spectators cheering us all on. Wall to wall humanity! This event was the biggest Achilles LV has ever participated in, and hosted, with many out of state chapters represented. We had 24 local athletes and guides that participated in the 10K and Half Marathon. We hosted Achilles athletes and guides that came in from Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Tucson, Boulder, Denver, and Los Angeles, over 75 of us in all!
As part of the Achilles Family we are always available and ready to help and support each other, always willing to stretch our limits, both imagined and real, individually and as a team effort.
Thank you so much to all of our volunteers and guides who showed up from all over throughout the weekend, without your energy, passion, and dedication none of this would be possible.
