Achilles International is pleased to announce that we will officially operate United in Stride, a one-to-one digital matching program that connects people who are blind or have low vision with running and walking guides in their community. By combining Achilles’ chapter network with United in Stride’s digital platform, we’re excited to help make movement more accessible than ever before. The transition is ongoing and progress updates on how members can begin accessing will be communicated later this June. We thank the Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired and Richard Hunter for this incredible tool and entrusting us to continue its legacy forward. Our goal is simple: More opportunities to move, bringing the magic of Achilles on the go. Learn more: https://ow.ly/VCUk50Z5ie6

Another busy and great week behind us. During this past week we've welcomed 3 new athletes and 6 new guides!

We were joined by a volunteer guide from Achilles Washington DC on Saturday and Sunday as he was making his way across country visiting various Chapters. He even joined our early bird crew at 5:00 this morning!

Turns out there was a 5K going on at Cornerstone Park, where we do our training every Sunday. A few of our athletes found guides for the event, which was a fundraiser to support our local ALS Foundation.

On deck, our third Dragon Boat training next Saturday after our regular training, out at Lake Las Vegas.

Never a dull moment within our active LV Chapter.

Thank you to all of our guides and volunteers this past week. For your time, energy, patience, and passion.

If you would like to become involved as an athlete, guide, or help out in other ways, please look us up.

Another busy week for Achilles Las Vegas behind us.

Our Wednesday trainings have been growing. We had 14 athletes and guides join.

We had our second Dragon Boat training on Saturday, in addition to our regular training session at Bill Braire. Now that we have been out once, and have a feel of what to expect, our Dragon Boat crew is adjusting and fine tuning our skills out on the Lake. Thank you to our guides and trainers!

This morning we were at it again, 24 strong out at Cornerstone Park.

We begin our summer schedule next week.
6:00 a.m. on Wednesday and Saturday, and group photo at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday.

Thank you to all volunteers and guides over the past week. Changing lives and empowering so many along the way.

Please contact us if you have a disability and would like to join our family of athletes, which is growing by the month. Likewise if you would like to become a guide.

Another great Achilles week behind us.

We learned that "Friends of Red Rock Canyon" received a grant to design a trail to be accessible for the visually impaired. And, it so happened that the financial manager of the organization and several rangers were going to be on site Wednesday morning. So six athletes and our guides went on a field trip out to Red Rock Canyon to meet up with them. We walked the two mile trail with them, providing comments and recommendations along the way of what we felt would work best to help them accomplish their goals. The rangers were so knowledgeable and we learned so much along the way about everything Red Rock Canyon; the fauna, geology, native tortoise population, and so much more.

Saturday and Sunday morning we were back at our training locations with 56 athletes and guides walking, running, and enjoying each other's company.

Thank you to all volunteers and guides. And, thank you to our athletes for getting out and stretching your limits each week.

Next Saturday will be our second Dragon Boat training out at Lake Las Vegas. We are really looking forward to that!

As the summer heat is starting to encroach, we'll be returning to our summer hours in two weeks at 6:00am for our west side location. We will keep the same time for our photo and announcements at 7:00am at the east side location.

We are always welcoming to new guides and athletes. If interested, please reach out.

Achilles LV was out in force this weekend. More than 16 of us participated in the "Steps For Vets" 5K on Saturday morning. And, 60 of us walked or ran in the "SuperMom 5K/10K/Half Marathon this morning.

So proud of all of our athletes and guides who always give 100 percent. We always have so much fun when we gather for these events. But then, it's always serious business once we hit the course. Always focused on surpassing our last PR and true to form many of our athletes did just that over these two events.

Our race events will start slowing down as the summer heat starts to encroach. We will, however, still be hitting our weekly trainings. And thanks to one of our volunteers guides who is a Dragon Boat Trainer, we'll be grabbing the paddles and hitting the water. We have trainings scheduled for each month through October, when we will be competing in a tournament competition out at Lake Las Vegas.

Never a dull moment for us! Thank you so much to all of our volunteers and guides over this past week for helping make it possible, and so much fun!

So here we are again, mixing it up, challenging and empowering each other as we do each time we So here we are again, mixing it up, challenging and empowering each other as we do each time we gather.

This morning, 30 of us from all three of our weekly training crews convened at the base of Lone Mountain, instead of our normal Cornerstone Park location.

Ever since we participated in Triple Dare Running Company's "Trail of Terror" here several years back now, this has become a special gathering place for us. It is different than our park locations, uniquely challenging, and has a certain serene feel about it. It was also the last time one of our long time volunteer guides will be with us, as he's moving out of state. So, we had an appreciation sendoff for him during our initial gathering and photo taking time.

Next weekend we look forward to back to back weekend races at training location that we use on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Stay tuned on that...

In the meantime, thank you to all of our volunteers and guides. The relationships that we have formed, the connections we've all made with each other, and the spirit of competition and empowerment we all embrace with and through is truly priceless.

It was a super energized, exciting, and super busy weekend for us this past weekend! We had two Racing Events going on at the same time, that several of us participated in. The Jackpot Ultras, hosted by Aravaipa Running Company, and the Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series on the Las Vegas Strip.

It all started with Jackpot on Friday. One of our guides completed 100 miles in 21 hours and 35 minutes and received his finish buckle award. One of our athletes began Friday morning and never stopping until 48 hours later, clocking in 127 miles.

We had our usual Saturday morning training and 20 people showed up and got their opportunity to train and be out in the community.

Then there was the excitement and energy around picking up our Rock ‘n’ Roll race bibs at Resorts World in the days leading up to the Big Event, which took place Sunday afternoon on the Strip. Many of our athletes and guides had never experience a race event of this magnitude, so what an opportunity for them to experience this!

On Sunday morning two of our guides participated in the Scale the Strat Event at the Stratosphere Hotel Casino Tower. It’s an annual event where participants take the challenge of scaling 1455 steps inside the Stratosphere. Proceeds for this event go towards supporting the American Lung Association.

In regard to Rock ‘n’ Roll, there were approximately 30,000 participants and thousands more spectators cheering us all on. Wall to wall humanity! This event was the biggest Achilles LV has ever participated in, and hosted, with many out of state chapters represented. We had 24 local athletes and guides that participated in the 10K and Half Marathon. We hosted Achilles athletes and guides that came in from Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Tucson, Boulder, Denver, and Los Angeles, over 75 of us in all!

As part of the Achilles Family we are always available and ready to help and support each other, always willing to stretch our limits, both imagined and real, individually and as a team effort.

Thank you so much to all of our volunteers and guides who showed up from all over throughout the weekend, without your energy, passion, and dedication none of this would be possible.
