452 acres of opportunity, and a vision for what Nevada State University could become. 🎓🏙️

Thank you to KTNV Channel 13 Las Vegas for covering last week’s presentation of the ULI Nevada Technical Assistance Panel findings and helping bring this important conversation to the broader Southern Nevada community!

The story highlights several of the panel’s recommendations for Nevada State University’s future campus expansion, including:

🌿 A signature campus entrance that embraces the surrounding desert landscape

🏡 Expanded student housing and academic facilities

🚶 Improved walkability and more welcoming gathering spaces

🤝 Stronger connections between the university and the City of Henderson

These recommendations offer a framework for the university to consider as it plans for future growth, creating opportunities to strengthen campus life while inviting the surrounding community to become part of the experience.

The next chapter for Nevada State University is taking shape. 🎓🌱

Earlier this year, ULI Nevada convened a Technical Assistance Panel to explore the future of more than 450 acres of university land surrounding Nevada State University.

Now, we’re ready to share what came out of that work.

Join ULI Nevada and Nevada State University on September 23 for a special presentation unveiling the TAP’s findings and recommendations for a resilient campus expansion.

The discussion will explore opportunities related to:

🌿 Resilient infrastructure

It’s always exciting to see an important local conversation continue beyond the room. 🌿🏙️

KSNV News 3, Las Vegas recently covered ULI Nevada’s Placemaking & Creating Walkable Cities event, highlighting the conversation around how Southern Nevada can create more connected, accessible and resilient communities, even while navigating the realities of extreme summer heat.

One takeaway featured in the story: Mayor Shelley Berkley shared that the City of Las Vegas plans to plant more than 60,000 trees over the next several years, helping create additional tree canopy and cooler conditions for people moving through the city on foot.

That is exactly why conversations around placemaking matter. Walkability isn’t simply about sidewalks. It’s about shade, comfort, accessibility, thoughtful planning and creating places where people actually want to spend time.

What does it take to create a city where people don’t just move through it, but actually want to stay, connect, and belong?

Last night, ULI Nevada brought together local leaders and members of Southern Nevada’s built environment community for Placemaking & Creating Walkable Cities, a conversation focused on the role thoughtful planning, design, and leadership can play in creating more connected, vibrant, and people-centered places.

Thank you to Mayor Shelley Berkley and former Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett for sharing their perspectives, and to Mark L. Fine for guiding the discussion as moderator.

From walkability and public space to long-term community building and the decisions that shape how cities grow, the evening was a reminder that great places don’t happen by accident. They are created through vision, collaboration, and a willingness to think beyond the individual project.
