"To prepare for the upcoming Filing Season for Tax Year 2025 and to ensure all Individual and Business Returns for Tax Year 2024 e-filed through the MeF system are processed in a timely manner, the following production shutdown and acknowledgment retrieval schedule has been established.

The shutdown for “Send Submissions” will begin at 11:59 a.m. Eastern Time on Friday, December 26, 2025.

Any acknowledgments not retrieved by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on December 26, 2025, will not be accessible until MeF reopens for production in January 2026."

The Internal Revenue Service could be loosing some of its teeth.

The IRS has struggled to overcome staffing shortages for decades, and the Trump administration’s goal to shave down the federal workforce may crumble its progress.
The tax agency has faced continued challenges in employee recruitment, hiring, training, and retention, according to an analysis by the Taxpayer Advocate.

Separately, the IRS just lost another $20 billion in key funding which may impact the agency's capability to audit taxpayers.

All of these changes may impact taxpayers like you as you wait for your tax returns to be filed and processed. Expect general tax returns processing delays, Identity theft delays may worsen, customer service may become non existent. So stay tuned.

We’re all busy, but tax professionals should stay vigilant against scams. The Drake EFIN scam is resurfacing, and like most scams, it looks convincing but contains subtle errors—for instance, the IRS E-help desk’s correct toll-free number is 866-255-0654.

Drake has issued a reminder on its website stating that it will never ask for personal information via email.

Stay cautious out there!
