It's been years since I've come across this beauty. Calochortus kennedyi, or the Desert Mariposa Lily, is a perennial wildflower in the lily family, native to the southwestern US deserts. The Cima dome fire scar holds gems.

🪨We found a beautiful “biface”, that would have served several roles, could be a spear point one week, and a knife the next, if you needed a small tool, you might strike a small flake off of this and use that, making what im holding a paleo Swiss Army knife of sorts. The material has the lovely name silicified volcanic! It’s a welded tuff with concentrated areas high in silica. There’s a big source of it north of Vegas.

Of the 21 species of horned lizards, 15 are native to the US!!! These little guys are super cute and specialized ant-eaters, often eating >100 ants per day. They are also famous for defending themselves by inflating their bodies, hiding, or shooting blood from their eyes.
