NAAFA Official NAAFA page: Founded in 1969, NAAFA is a national nonprofit civil rights organization. Why Should I Support NAAFA?

Founded in 1969, NAAFA is a non-profit civil rights organization dedicated to ending size discrimination in all of its forms by promoting "Equality At Every Size." NAAFA's goal is to help build a society in which people of every size are accepted with dignity and equality in all aspects of life. NAAFA will pursue this goal through advocacy, public education, and support. Fat people are discriminat

ed against in all aspects of daily life, from employment to education to access to public accommodations, and even access to adequate medical care. This discrimination occurs despite evidence that 95 to 98 percent of diets fail over five years and that 65 million Americans are labeled “obese.” Our thin-obsessed society firmly believes that fat people are at fault for their size and it is politically correct to stigmatize and ridicule them. Fat discrimination is one of the last publicly accepted discriminatory practices. Fat people have rights and they need to be upheld! NAAFA’s message of size acceptance and self-acceptance is often overshadowed by a $49 billion-a-year diet industry that has a vested economic interest in perpetuating discrimination against fat people. Without active financial support from people like you, NAAFA would not exist and could not fulfill its crucial role defending your rights. While it is an uphill battle to achieve our goals, together we are making a difference.

It's us. We're "advocacy group."

Shout-out to ALL of the activists, advocates, and influencers who have been helping set the record straight on what is and is *not* changing at Southwest Airlines.

Please do not show up at the airport thinking Southwest has gone back to their old Customer of Size policy because some headlines and articles last week gave that impression. Southwest is still officially recommending that fat flyers purchase a 2nd seat *in advance*. And as of January, there has to be at least one extra empty seat on the plane for you to get a refund on seat 2 (previous policies allowed that. Current policies do not).

If you arrive at the airport without a second seat, they'll only help you get one without charge if there are two *adjacent* seats empty on the plane. Otherwise, according to their press statements and now their website, you will be rebooked onto another flight with adjacent seats available.

Thanks to The Hill for this coverage.

Southwest Airlines is apparently rethinking its guidelines for plus-size travelers, walking back a key part of the new seating policy just months after implementation.

All day long today, we’ve been hearing from our followers about today’s headlines saying might be going back to their former Policy. But the changes they’ve made recently (which were finally added to their website this afternoon) don’t go back to the old policy at all. Accommodating fat flyers on the day of their flight *only if there are two available adjacent seats* means Customers of Size still risk being bumped to another flight if there are not two adjacent seats available. Southwest made changes because our community was loud about mistreatment. But there’s still more for them to do! Tell Southwest what you need! Comment below and sign our petition at naafa.org/southwest!

Plus size travelers want to know: is going back to their old Customer of Size Policy, and the answer to that is.... 🥁🥁🥁... Mostly no. 😔 Let NAAFA Executive Director Tigress Osborn explain the change that is happening and the change that is NOT. Thanks to (emily_infullbloom on TikTok) for the heads up about possible changes. As of the time of this posting, Southwest has made no official changes to their website nor sent notification to past Customer of Size flyers. Our information is based on what our media contacts have shared with us and what has been published in People magazine and the NY Post. Some reports say new changes go into effect June 8, but we called Southwest Customer Service and were told that no one at the Help Desk could find any documentation showing changes will be made. Stay tuned for more. Sign our petition at Naafa.org/southwest.

Even though Summer doesn't technically start until June, a lot of people kick things off on Memorial Day weekend and we've already seen several great fat swim parties take place this year.

Every summer, we are subjected to non-stop narratives that swim season is only for some bodies. But hundreds of fat folks prove that wrong every year, and we love to see it! Lots of folks think fat swims started in the last few years, but we’re here to tell you, size acceptance and fat liberation spaces have been safer spaces for fat people to be in the water without judgement FOR DECADES. The first formally organized and advertised fat pool party that we know of was at the 1978 convention, but fat swimmers have been boldly making a splash on their own for as long as fat people have existed (in other words, always!)

What do fat swims mean to you? Tell us about your first, your faves, and your plans for this summer! Save the date for ’s meet-up at the historic Making Waves Swim in Albany, CA on August 30. We’ll also be hosting a special virtual fat splash during Fat Liberation Month in August. Stay tuned for more!
