Culinary Workers Union Local 226 Fighting and winning for Nevada's working families for 90 years! The Culinary Union has been fighting for working families in Nevada for 86 years.

Culinary Union members work as: Guest room attendants, cocktail and food servers, porters, bellmen, cooks, bartenders, laundry and kitchen workers. Culinary Workers Union Local 226 and Bartenders Union Local 165, Nevada affiliates of UNITE HERE, represent 60,000 workers in Las Vegas and Reno, including at most of the casino resorts on the Las Vegas Strip and in Downtown Las Vegas. UNITE HERE represents 300,000 workers in gaming, hotel, and food service industries in North America. The Culinary Union has a diverse membership which is 55% women and 45% immigrants. The demographics of Culinary Union members are approximately: 54% Latinx, 18% white, 15% Asian, 12% Black, and less than 1% Indigenous Peoples. The Culinary Union is Nevada’s largest Latinx/Black/AAPI/immigrant organization with members who come from 178 countries and speak over 40 different languages. We are proud to have helped over 18,000 immigrants become American citizens and new voters since 2001 through our affiliate, The Citizenship Project.

Meet Al Tate, a linen porter, and Culinary Union member for 17 years -

"I’m fighting for better health care and for people’s voices to be heard, especially in our education system. We need more Culinary Union members at the table so working‑class people are represented.

Joe Spica has stood up to major corporations and fought for workers in contract negotiations.
Aaron Ford is one of us and knows the struggles we face.

Las Vegas is in a “Trump Slump” with low tourism and struggling families. We need to get rid of Joe Lombardo because he has had his time in office to make changes for the normal everyday people and he hasn't done that."

Culinary and Bartenders Unions are proudly setting a new standard in Las Vegas, alongside Goodwrx, where temporary workers can access quality temp jobs with union benefits and health care!

It’s officially fiscal year 2027. That means more families will be at risk of losing food support as more changes from the Big Beautiful Bill take effect.
Already 5 million families have been kicked off the SNAP program. As food prices continue to go up, the federal government is shifting even more costs onto states, leaving more workers at risk of losing critical food support.
When federal dollars are pulled out of our communities, working people pay the price. Local businesses lose customers, jobs and wages are impacted, and local economies suffer. Meanwhile, billionaires are getting even bigger tax breaks.
Working people can't afford the so-called Big Beautiful Bill. Stand up for working families at the ballot box.

"I am canvassing because everything is getting out of control with the economy, housing, groceries, gas prices, car insurance, and more.

I want to elect more Culinary Union members into office so that we can protect our great healthcare.

That’s why I’m supporting Joe Spica. He’s done the hard work, and he also volunteers in the community. He’s a good man, and I know he will fight for us.

Does politics impact you?

On September 23, 2026, Culinary Union joined New Jersey Senator Cory Booker and Nevada Senator Catherine Cortez Masto to call on the U.S. Senate to pass the Faster Labor Contracts Act, bipartisan legislation that would guarantee workers who vote to form a union a first contract without years of delay.

For 17 years, Station Casinos has done everything it can to block workers from exercising their right to a union contract - from firing leaders who organized their co-workers to using the pandemic as a scheme to break their union support.

Workers at Station Casinos won their union through National Labor Relations Board elections and yet they’ve been dragged through endless delays, appeals, and bad-faith tactics by the company.

Culinary Union and Station Casinos’ workers demand justice, applaud Senators Booker and Cortez Masto for their continued leadership, and urge the swift passage of the Faster Labor Contracts Act. This legislation is needed because it puts real timelines and consequences on bad employers who stall.

We stand with Station Casinos workers who are organizing and we won’t stop fighting until we win strong union contracts.
