Join an Interpretive Naturalist on June 17th anytime from 10 AM to 12 PM in the Red Rock Canyon Visitor Center to create your very own souvenir from Red Rock Canyon! This month we will be making oil pastel transfer drawings of different plants and animals that can be found in the area. This event does not require registration and is free and open to all!

June’s Teen Naturalist program is all about dirt! Join an Interpretive Naturalist to explore soil science. Test your hypothesis on how the desert plants survive with minimal resources and get your hands dirty with the soil samples collected from various parts of the National Conservation Area. This program is meant for teens ranging from 12-17. If you have a teen interested in exploring the different avenues of outdoor careers, Teen Naturalist is the perfect fit. These monthly programs introduce different opportunities for their future in environmental science, public lands, and outdoor education.

It’s summertime, which means it’s the perfect time for your loved one who dreams of becoming a Junior Ranger to join a Bureau of Land Management Ranger for an exciting monthly Red Rock Junior Ranger Summertime Speaker Series. You and your child will get to learn from various experts from around the valley about their careers, what made them choose their careers, and about safety as well. We have a great lineup of guest speakers coming this summer! In June, we’ll hear from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Enterprise Area Command. In July, Red Rock Search and Rescue will join us, followed by the Bureau of Land Management’s Law Enforcement team in August. Then in September, we’ll wrap up with a special guest speaker from Ice Age Fossils State Park!

Witness one of the desert’s rarest sights on a guided hike through Red Rock Canyon with an Interpretive Naturalist. Utah agave, an icon of the American Southwest, is now blooming across the canyon, creating a short-lived display that few people get the chance to see. This 1.25-mile (2 km) moderate hike invites visitors to discover this remarkable plant and how it shapes the ecological and cultural landscape of Red Rock Canyon.

Bring your duo—your best friend, partner, situationship, or favorite adventure buddy—and join us for the debut of our new summer series, Date Night in the Canyon, featuring our first event: Wild Reflections!

In Wild Reflections, you’ll learn about some of the amazing animals of the Mojave Desert, their traits, behaviors, and adaptations. Then, get creative as you paint your partner inspired by the animal you think best represents them. Along the way, we’ll share fun prompts and questions to spark conversation and help you connect, learn more about each other, and see one another in a whole new way. Afterward, you’ll reveal your artistic choices and the animal that inspired them.

Is your child interested in a career in the outdoors? Red Rock Canyon NCA is starting a monthly program for middle to high school age students called Teen Naturalists of Red Rock Canyons. These programs will offer an opportunity for students to explore different areas of science, outdoor education, and more! For the month of May, join an Interpretive Naturalist to learn about entomology! We will be learning about the life of butterflies, their impact on ecological systems, and students will the opportunity to do some hands-on science by pinning their own butterfly for a display! All students will have the opportunity to do so as long as they are signed up in advance.

Have you spotted the 10-foot-tall green stalks rising from the rocky slopes in Red Rock Canyon? They mark the rare bloom of Utah agave, a desert specialist that spends decades preparing for a single flowering event. Join an Interpretive Naturalist for a guided hike to explore Utah agave’s survival strategies and how this remarkable plant shapes the ecological and cultural landscape of Red Rock Canyon. This 1.5-mile (2.4 km) moderate hike involves some scrambling where you will use all limbs to pull your body over rocky areas, allowing you to see Utah agave in its preferred mountain environment. Come prepared with water, sun protection, and sturdy footwear. Hiking poles are suggested.
