Hannah's Ranch Animal Sanctuary

Hannah's Ranch Animal Sanctuary Closed Dec 2023. Hannah’s Ranch rescued and provided long term care for over 1,200 animals. 2011-2023 Our Story:

We are Dillon and Dawn LaBonte.

We have always rescued animals but started a more large-scale rescue in 2004 and have rescued and spayed/neutered and placed over 400 cats and dogs. Our rescue has expanded to horses, goats and chickens, birds in need of critical care or emergency rescue. Our rescue expanded to Koi abandoned throughout the valley during the foreclosure crisis. Today our rescue is a sanctuary for animals considered

"unadoptable", as well as critical care for animals in crisis and emergency rescue and placement. Hannah's Story:

We named Hannah's Ranch for the puppy who convinced us that rescuing needed to be an integral part of our lives. Although we lost Hannah to her injuries in 2011, Hannah lives in through our rescue work. Story was written before we lost Hannah so it is written in the present tense. We don't have the heart to shift it to past tense. The Story:

Hannah was found and rescued by Brooke at the Las Vegas Valley Humane Society after being hit in the head with what they suspect was a shovel at 8 weeks old. Dr. Caren Carney performed emergency surgery on Hannah and saved her life. We adopted Hannah In January of 2010 knowing she would need special care. One look at her and we fell in love. Her journey has been long with many severe medical issues. We slowly changed our life to accommodate Hannah including moving to a home on 1/2 acre of flat land and putting in a lawn so she could safely play without falling down or hurting her feet. Hannah is a brave and wonderful puppy who requires 24/7 care. She helped us realize our true passion is animal rescue including animals who require rehabilitation and special care. With all Hannah's challenges, she has unlimited patience for the kittens who frolic all over her and bite her tail and sleep on and near her. As we watched Hannah's amazing will to live and saw her kind heart as she welcomed and played with the incoming kittens, the concept for Hannah's Ranch was born. In honor of Hannah our tag line for Hannah's Ranch is "the courage to survive, the heart to help". We felt blessed every day we had Hannah. We learned a lot about perseverance, and remembering to find joy in day to day life. We knew her time on this earthly space was limited due to the extent of her neurological injuries. But, every day, she found joy in the simple things which remind us to do the same. Hannah's Ranch is her legacy and her spirit lives on through the rescue projects that take place at her ranch. Your contributions are tax deductible.

Hand raised from a little chick. He is slowly reaching puberty. He wanders away from home, we don’t see him for several days and we worry, he shows up, hungry and exhausted. Just like a human kid trying to leave home and make a life.

The story of the baby peahen.
Every spring, Hannah’s Ranch has baby peacocks brought in for rescue. This little hen was missing from her mom for about ten days and was found passed out with severe heat exhaustion and dehydration. When she got to the ranch she could not move. We used an eye dropper and fed her drops of electrolyte water every half hour. We propped her up on ice packs and towels to cool her down. Soon she was holding her head up. Her feet were curled and we didn’t know if she would ever walk again. Slowly she sat up on her own, then she stood, then she took a few steps, then she walked. It was amazing when I walked in and she had flown to my chair. A week later, she flew to the top of my shelves. She was moved to an outside sanctuary with two young males who were rescued earlier in the season. Soon she was ready and we opened the doors. She stayed here for a few months and then one day joined the young females in our neighborhood. She still visits now and again, showing up with several females or a full grown male peacock.

We don't know what the future holds for everyone during Covid, but if you need to place a pet or you know someone that needs to, please have them reach out to us. We will do all we can to find a home for it. Please do not dump them or abandon them. We won't ask any questions or expect payment. It would be nice to know if they have any vet experience - shots, etc.
