**TRIGGER WARNING**
When you arrive for your first day at boot camp, you are given your battle buddy. You make friendships through times of struggle, through war, through death, through it all. That being said, what are we so opposed to asking those same people for help when we need it most? Is it not wanting to be seen as weak? Is it because you just don’t want anyone to know that you are suffering while it appears they are not? In the end, we don’t know what someone else is dealing with. How many of you have PTSD because of survivor’s guilt? How many of you ask why your soldiers are in “the Sandbox”? How many of US turn to alcohol or drugs in an effort to numb the pain of the decisions you made? Whether you are a veteran or a first responder, we make choices. We have to. Some of those are life and death. Some result in the death of a patient and some of them result in the death of one of our own. Either way, we have to remember, that WE signed on for this. We took their pain away as best we could but now, we have to take our own pain away. I’m begging you all PLEASE get help before it’s too late.

I know I’ve been posting some very hard and probably triggering material as of late, but I have a reason for doing so. My reason is this...the longer we suffer, the more we hurt those who we love and who love us. War, fires, and emergencies take our souls AND our sanity, but they don’t need to keep them. Only WE can get them back and so, with that, I beg of you, PLEASE reach out and ask for help. What is war REALLY like? If you haven’t been there, you wouldn’t know. In this video, two combat veterans talk about what war is REALLY like. Maybe you are a friend or family member of a service member and just don’t know how to ask what war is like. Now, you can get some idea without having to ask. Sometimes, its hard to understand why someone is the way they are if you don’t know what they have gone through or have seen. Now you know. Hopefully, this can be just the start of a conversation for anyone. For combat veterans, maybe a conversation like this is one you should think about having with your loved ones so that they can better understand you. Either way, I hope everyone can get something out of this.

In the last post we made about the last words of Deputy Kerr, he talked about how he was a member of the peer support program. Some of you who are still active may not know what that is or you may be afraid or embarrassed to ask for help. You should never be afraid to ask for help because you never know whose life you could save besides your own. The more we talk about su***de, the less of a stigma there will be. REACH OUT! Someone will be there for you because as we know, IN THIS FAMILY NO ONE FIGHTS ALONE.

This is the last statement of Deputy Clyde Kerr. Please see it how he meant it to be seen. He meant it to be seen as a call to stop the divide in our country and to change law enforcement by adding more training on racial equality in the police academy and then for the department to stay on top of mental health. He also makes a point to ask to remove the stigma of mental health. RIP DEPUTY CLYDE KERR.
