Vegas Black Think Tank (The State of Black Las Vegas Symposium Series) Committed to the black community and working hard til it turns around and makes the dream a reality for all

Welcome and Greetings,

We are the Vegas Black Think Tank, the newest urban grassroots organization in Southern Nevada. Our sole purpose is to restore the village and its mentality that once existed in Black America. Our goals are multi-faceted, lofty, bold, and ambitious. We believe that as black Americans, we have a nucleus of such limitless potential as a people. With such awesome potential, g

reat opportunity, and existing resources, we can impact our community for the better. We want to expand our collective strengths through outreach programs, targeted advocacy, and putting the “WE” first, while minimizing our individual weaknesses. We are planning a few events to close out the last half of the year; a town hall meeting, a symposium, and the launch of a youth mentorship outreach program. We are outraged at the state of our race across our country and locally. We are in an unstable economy by most indicators and blacks suffer the worse during those times. That being said, internally, our issues are monumental, although they can be changed. The outrage comes from things such as the astronomical high school dropout rates among blacks, especially the males. Studies show that 1 out of 3 or 33% and rising, of black boys that don’t complete their high school education will end up in the criminal justice system (a.k.a prison or jail). The teen and young adult HIV epidemic that we are facing is enormous. Employment is diminishing across the country with black suffering the highest unemployment rates at approximately 16%. Black on black crime is the #1 killer of black males, we are killing ourselves; our brothers, sisters, sons, and daughters. The statistics go on and on, yet we have become as a society, a people, and a race, very passive. We want bring back consciousness to our community through critical conversations, discourse, and debate. We will have community functions such as monthly community clean-up projects and even a citywide black family reunion. We also will have many entertainment events with educational components to reach people wherever they are. Here is a short list of what we will be doing as an organization:
State of Black Las Vegas Symposium
State of The Black Family in Las Vegas Symposium
Has the village in Black America failed? Town Hall Meeting
What is going on with black love relationships? Symposium

Our plans are vast, comprehensive, and wide ranging, however, we believe that our will must supersede our immediate problems and challenges. We refuse to be an organization that is only active within four walls, we will be in our neighborhoods and communities. We would like to sincerely invite you, your family and friends to join our family, our group, our organization of concerned and caring people. We have a public interest meeting coming up in the near future as we prepare to gather a critical mass to be impactful and effective. For more information and/or interest, please respond back and will send you information as it develops. Thanks in advance for your time, consideration, and attention. We hope that you will be at one of our meetings and we pray that your family will be and remain safe, prosperous, and healthy. As a new organization, we are seeking conscience blacks who are concerned about the state of our race and culture. This may be for you, it may not be, and ultimately we want you to know that we are here. Kind Regards,

Devin Moore

For his leadership in stroke care, including the three-plus-year effort to establish the first mobile stroke unit in Central Ohio, Dr. William "B.J." Hicks II ’02 has been named the American Heart Association's 2025 Physician of the Year.

Dr. Hicks was recognized for his visionary leadership in stroke care—particularly the launch of Central Ohio’s first mobile stroke treatment unit, which brings life-saving care directly to patients’ doorsteps, reducing critical treatment delays. A committed advocate for health equity, he has worked tirelessly to close care gaps in under-resourced communities, and Morehouse is proud to honor Dr. Hicks, whose work reflects the College’s values of excellence, service, and the transformative impact of Black health professionals.
