Rescues, Fosters or Adopters Needed

URGENT: 5 dogs need immediate placement — Las Vegas, NV
We lost one of our beloved fosters suddenly this week. She leaves behind five dogs who need homes or temporary fosters right now.
Amy & Toby — 13-year-old Papillons, bonded pair. They must go together. Sweet, gentle, and have only known love their whole lives. (Photos 1 & 2)
Pickles — 5-6 years old, long-haired mixed breed, about 12 lbs. Fluffy, mild-mannered, and an absolute sweetheart. (Photo 3)
Harry — Around 8 years old, black Terrier mix. (Photo 4)
Festus — 13-ish year old Chihuahua mix, senior boy who may need a hospice foster. We will fully sponsor his medical care for the rest of his life. All you need a safe home. He is very set in his ways and prefers to spend his days outside or lounging and not being messed with too much, he likes other dogs and low energy environments . (Photo 5)
All five are good with other dogs, and good with kids. They are loving animals who are scared and grieving right now. They deserve soft landings.

They all came from somewhere. They were once fed and cared for, and have now been discarded and forgotten.😔💔 So very heartbreaking is the situation seen at the local shelters every day.

Big-small, young-old, different colors, different breeds, all wonderful personalities. The biggest misconception about shelters and rescues is that "they offer no variety". As you can see below, that statement is simply untrue. Unfortunately, no animal is immune from ending up in the system. All different: breeds, ages, shapes, sizes, and colors come through their doors. All are amazing and unique, in their own way. And each and everyone one of them, wish for a family to call their own.

We received the sad news that at the beginning of the year our sweet Alumni, Jack passed away.
Jack was adopted by his amazing family in 2015, at an adoption event we had at St. Francis of Assisi's fall festival. Julie and her daughter Lilli came to volunteer, and had no intention on adopting. Jack was still a shy dog at the time (see top picture). The event was a lot on him and Julie and Lilli spent a lot of time walking him away from the crowds, and making sure he felt comfortable. So of course by the end of the event they were inseparable.
Jack spent the next 11 years being loved and pampered, and Julie, Lilli and Luciano because some of the best supporters to Second Chance, coming to all of our events and supporting every thing we do.
We don't know much about Jack before he came to us, but we know that he lived the majority of his life knowing what true love is, and you can tell by his picture that after being adopted he transformed into a smiling, cuddly, and confident guy. We wish that every dog could have a family like the one Jack did. So we will continue rescuing in hopes that one day they do.

Donner and Dasher are an adorable bonded pair of chihuahua mixes who are looking for a loving home together. They were adopted as puppies seven years ago and recently lost their home through no fault of their own. This change has been confusing for them, but they remain the same sweet, affectionate, well-adjusted boys they’ve always been.

These two are best friends and truly rely on each other for comfort and companionship, so they must be adopted together.

Festus needs his forever home or long-term foster!

Festus is a distinguished senior dog who, at a sprightly age, still enjoys the simpler pleasures of life—like a good nap and the company of friends both big and small. He's about 10 lbs of charm and has shed some extra weight recently, making him more sprightly than ever!

Having recently undergone a $1,200 dental treatment, Festus is back to enjoying solid kibble with gusto, and his one remaining tooth.

Festus is the epitome of a seasoned gentleman who values his independence and quiet time. He is potty pad trained and prefers to spend his days lounging and relaxing in peace. He cherishes his autonomy, and like any respectable old timer, chooses when and by whom he wants to be petted—often showing a preference for children.

However, due to his mature nature and the fact that he has one canine tooth left, Festus would be best suited in a home with older children who understand his need for personal space. He isn't fond of being picked up and will make his preferences clear!

When it comes to other pets, Festus shows a loving affinity for small dogs and has even befriended guinea pigs. He's generally tolerant of larger dogs but prefers those who are mild-mannered, as he isn’t shy about snapping if a larger dog invades his personal space.

It's important to note that Festus may be deaf, so getting his attention requires a gentle tap rather than calling his name. This little quirk simply adds to his unique character and means he’ll fit right into a patient and understanding family.
