Burnout doesn’t just affect providers. It can impact ethical decision-making, professional boundaries, and quality of care.

Nicole Williams led an important discussion on the realities addiction and gambling treatment professionals face, from emotional exhaustion and role overload to the long-term impact of untreated burnout in clinical settings.

This session highlighted practical strategies to support workforce sustainability while maintaining strong ethical standards of care for both providers and clients.

During the Nevada State Conference on Problem Gambling, we were honored to hear from Jeanette Hernandez on the lived experiences of Latinx adults in Las Vegas and how gambling intersects with migration, trauma, and mental health.

Her research highlights an important reality: problem gambling doesn’t exist in isolation—and neither should the solutions. Participants shared barriers to accessing care, while also identifying spaces like Gamblers Anonymous as meaningful sources of connection and belonging.

This work reinforces the need for culturally responsive prevention, assessment, and treatment that reflect the communities we serve here in Nevada.

Understanding leads to compassion. Compassion leads to action!

Problem gambling is often misunderstood, but it’s a real behavioral health condition that deserves awareness and care. When we take the time to learn, we’re better equipped to support those impacted.

Let’s continue building a more informed and compassionate Nevada.

Recovery from problem gambling is possible with the right support system.
That support might look like counseling, peer groups, or simply someone who listens without judgment. No one has to navigate this alone.

Nevada resources are here when you’re ready.
