November is Stomach Cancer Awareness Month. And on November 22, 2014, the Stomach Cancer Relief Network turns 4 years old. We want to celebrate this with our own pay it forward to some random supporters over the years. We have acquired some Usher concert tickets for his upcoming show at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on 11/22/2014 at 8:00 pm. and we want to give back to you! So, if you have ever donated (any amount), or supported (shown up to any event, retweeted any tweets, etc.), you are automatically entered into a random drawing for a pair of tickets. We also are having another random giveaway on twitter for another pair of tickets for anybody.

Over $15,000 has been raised to date for victims, caregivers, and research. We still have a long way to go, but we just wanted to pause and say, Thank You! November is stomach cancer awareness month. The estimates for stomach cancer in the United States for 2014 are:

*About 22,220 cases of stomach cancer will be diagnosed (13,730 in men and 8,490 in women)
*About 10,990 people will die from this type of cancer (6,720 men and 4,270 women)

Causes of Stomach Cancer

As with most cancers, researchers don't know yet what causes stomach cancer. Several risk factors have been identified, however. These include:

*alcohol use
*cigarette smoking
*diets high in foods that are preserved by drying, smoking, salting, or pickling
*diet low in vegetables and fruits
*exposure to chemicals used in rubber and lead manufacturing
*family history of stomach cancer
*gastric atrophy
*history of Helicobacter pylori infection
*men
*being older than 50 years of age
*pernicious anemia
*previous stomach surgery
*people of African descent
*socioeconomic status - it's not known why, but people in lower socioeconomic classes seem to have a higher rate of stomach cancer

In a new report, researchers said that while 17 drugs were identified in 2008 as having the potential to cause serious problems when taken with grapefruit, this number has now grown to 43.

It has long been known that grapefruit juice can pose dangerous — and even deadly — risks when taken along with certain medications.
