CALLING FOR APPLICATIONS!

We are expecting several dogs to need our help in the coming weeks -- this is pretty typical at the start of the summer -- and we thought we'd see if we could identify potential foster or adoption homes in advance.

If you would like to be contacted about any incoming hounds, please text or email your interest to Kathleen at (702) 232-8480 or [email protected], and please include the following information, along with anything else you'd like us to know: (1) prior basset experience, if any; (2) prior LVBR adoption approval, if any; (3) specifics of any pets currently in the home; (4) any age or gender preferences; and (5) whether you own or rent, have a home, condo or apartment, and if you have a pool. Thank you!

Bailey is perfect, even if she's not a basset!

We're humbly asking all LVBR followers to help us spread the word that 5 yr old shepherd mix, Bailey, is still looking for her forever home.

After a month in foster care, we can report that Bailey would make the perfect addition to any family. Whether you are an active single or couple, have children, or a senior family member in the home, Bailey is sweet and loving and so eager to please. She will come to her new home fully house trained and with dog door experience, and she walks great on a leash, the longer the walk the better. And, as we shared in her original posting, Bailey is great with other dogs, cats, and even tortoises!

Please consider Bailey for yourself or for referral to family members and close friends. Interested adopters may contact Kathleen by text at (702) 232-8480 or by email at [email protected]. Please share this post so that we can reach as many people as possible.

Today we got spammed by a group that is selling T-shirts and other items. They are not affiliated with Las Vegas, Bassett Rescue, and we have since blocked a multitude of people who were posting these comments. We apologize for the annoyance, and just know they are not affiliated with us in anyway. Hopefully we got them all for now, but we will stay vigilant.

Sometimes our rescues aren't Bassets....

But LVBR helps anyway because the dog is that special!

This is Bailey, and she is a 5 yr old spayed female shepherd mix whose owner died and then her remaining family member was evicted. She has gotten an A+ rating from her foster mom since joining us, who says Bailey knows commands, including shake, walks on a leash without pulling, only barks when appropriate and quickly quiets when asked, and has not had any accidents while being trained to use the dog door. The family member was devastated to give her up, describing Bailey as "THE best dog in the world," but her housing situation was dire. Bailey is great with other dogs, cats, and even the tortoise at her foster home!

If you have an extra couch spot for Bailey, please contact Kathleen by text at (702) 232-8480 or email at [email protected]. We normally get help from the NSPCA for non-bassets we hear about, but we think Bailey can and should stay in the LVBR family!

UPDATE 3/6/2026
Maybelle has scored a great opportunity and is currently testing out her new perspective adoptive family.

Maybelle Returns!

Sweet and playful Maybelle is still in search of her forever home, if you have a space on your couch and another high energy pup to be her BFF. She is 5 1/2 years old, but she looks and acts like a dog half her age.

We thought we had found the perfect match for her, but the dog already in the home decided she wasn't quite ready to share her people, and Maybelle came back to her foster mom, who was very happy to continue caring for her on her journey. Just a reminder, too, that before Maybelle came to us because her elderly owner could no longer care for her, she had lots of visits with kids and grandkids and was a wonderful companion to all, including other dogs and cats in the extended family. She will require an active home, preferably with at least one other dog.

Please contact Kathleen by text at (702) 232-8480 or by email at [email protected].

In Olympic Record time this little girl is definitely on the move. She has found a potential home with another basset that is her age and size. We are just waiting for the meet and greet but we are really hopeful.

Thank you to all our amazing basset lovers. You guys make miracles happen!

Miniature Maybelle on the Move!

Happy Valentine's Day! LVBR's newest rescue is the delightful, diminutive Maybelle! She will turn 6 years old in June, but her size and spunkiness are the same as a dog half her age. Her elderly owner was unable to continue to care for her, but before joining the rescue, she had the love of one home and lots of visits with kids and grandkids was the perfect companion for all, including other dogs and cats in the extended family. With her play energy, she will definitely do best with at least one other dog in the home. She was also recently spayed and given a dental. so Maybelle is ready when you are!

If your family is interested in a beautiful basset hound addition, please contact Kathleen by text at (702) 232-8480 or by email at [email protected]. We will also be revisiting prior applications to make sure we haven't forgotten anyone who may still be interested.

Another angel has gone to The Bridge.

Abby (originally Nancy) was one of the Eight is Enough rescues from about 15 years ago. We were able to rescue Mom and her seven pups. Unfortunately we were too late to rescue dad (obviously not a basset). This crew was named after the characters in the Eight is Enough TV show.

We’ve heard from the families that opened the hearts and homes to these dogs over the years and were wondering if any are still with us. We would love to see pictures, so please post in the comments.

This is from Abby’s mom,

Hi Kathleen, I wanted to let you know that we helped Abby over the rainbow bridge on Friday. She was 15 years old and the sweetest, loyal dog that I have ever owned. I have you to thank through the Las Vegas basset rescue in order to get her. If you recall, she was one of the “eight is enough “. I am happy that she had the opportunity to run through fields chase squirrels, and love cows, horses, and donkeys as we move to Tennessee about 2 years ago. Although I honestly think Abby actually prefers basking in the hot sun by a pool and under the palm trees.
I have to get used to not seeing her every day, which has been very very hard for me. I know it will take time to adjust and I’ve been trying to keep myself busy. Abby is in a much better place I am sure as she was tired and her little legs were giving out.

Happy National Basset Hound Day!

Today we celebrate all Bassets, but especially those hounds who are enjoying the next chapter of their lives through rescue, and the families that have opened their hearts and homes to them.

Winnie ATB 1/12/2026

Winnie came to LVBR in August 2022. Her owner had died and she had landed at the Animal Foundation. She was morbidly obese, weighing in at a whopping 87 pounds, and so they called us to help her.

She went into foster care and soon won the heart of her new Mom. Winnie lost 30 pounds that first year, and as the weight came off her personality began to emerge. Winnie was a bossy, goofy girl. She loved rearranging the pillows on the bed and insisted on being underfoot during workouts. She wasn’t much of a lap dog but wanted to be next to you. Winnie knew when it was time for her special afternoon snack and when it was time for her 6PM walk. She had a soft, gentle snore that was really sweet. Her passing has left her Mom with a giant basset sized hole in her heart.

Fly safely to The Bridge sweet girl.💔🌈😢
