America 250 Challenge coins are unique tokens given to individuals as a way to recognize their membership in a group of patriots who voluntarily donated to a fund to acquire, install, and maintain a permanent memorial at the Southern Nevada Veterans Cemetery Memorial Garden. They serve as a thank-you to honor their outstanding achievement in this fundraising effort.
These coins act as tangible symbols of camaraderie and pride, awarded to those who show remarkable willingness, leadership, or steadfast dedication to America's valued principles. Each coin features its own special design, capturing the values and spirit of the community it represents, making it not just a token but a cherished keepsake of honor and achievement.
Yesterday, June 27, 2026, due to the diligent efforts of our historian, Gary Parriott, the monument was delivered, installed, and unveiled at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery memorial garden.
There will be a formal dedication later this year after this soft unveiling. The conflict with the Department of Nevada convention made it impossible to hold a formal Dedication before Independence Day.
If you are at the Cemetery, stop and see this monument to our first patriots, the Minute Man, and Molly Pritcher.

There is a documentary titled The Six Triple Eight, a 2024 American war drama directed by Tyler Perry about the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, an all-black, all-female unit in World War II. Worth watching to learn about another overlooked battalion of women.

Another overlooked standout.

WOMEN OF VALOR - June 16, 1861, Dorothea Dix was appointed Superintendent of Army Nurses for the Union Army, becoming one of the most influential women of the Civil War and a pioneer in military nursing.

Recognizing the urgent need for organized care of wounded soldiers, Dix recruited, trained, and supervised thousands of women who served in Union military hospitals. She established standards for nursing service, improved hospital conditions, and helped bring order and professionalism to the Union Army's medical system.

Her appointment marked a turning point in military medicine and women's service, helping lay the foundation for the professional military nursing corps that would follow.

Beyond the war, Dix was a tireless advocate for the humane treatment of the mentally ill, leading reforms that transformed care in the United States and abroad.

Today, we honor Dorothea Dix and the generations of military nurses who have carried forward her legacy of care, courage, and service to our Nation. 🇺🇸
