Foster Kinship

Foster Kinship Foster Kinship provides free programs for kinship caregivers in NV.

By helping to “keep home in the family”, we envision a safe and healthy childhood for ALL children in kinship care. Foster Kinship was established as a 501(c)(3) organization in 2011 to help the 30,000 children living with relative caregivers in Nevada, also known as kinship care. Foster Kinship was founded with a mission to “strengthen the kinship caregivers’ capacity to provide safe, permanent,

and nurturing homes for children.”

Nationally recognized, Foster Kinship is the only non-profit organization in Nevada exclusively serving kinship children and families. Since its inception, Foster Kinship has proudly served over 15,000 children and kinship caregivers across Nevada.

Something really special is happening this August. 🧡

More people are discovering Foster Kinship, learning about kinship care, and joining the community that surrounds Nevada’s children and families.

Let’s keep that momentum going.

This month, eligible gifts from new Foster Kinship donors are matched dollar-for-dollar by the Helms Helps Foundation, giving every new supporter an opportunity to make twice the immediate impact.

If you’ve been thinking about making your first gift, this is a meaningful time to join us.

Already part of the Foster Kinship community? Help us reach the next person.

Share this post. Send it to a friend. Tag a coworker. Introduce someone in your life to a mission you already believe in.

Because the impact of this campaign isn’t only about what happens in August.

Every new donor, volunteer, advocate, partner, and supporter makes the community around kinship families stronger for the future.

🧡 Give. Share. Invite someone new.

Family isn't always defined by a family tree.

Sometimes it's a grandparent changing their plans overnight. An aunt or uncle making room. An older sibling stepping up. A family friend saying, “They can stay with me.”

It's showing up when things are complicated. Staying connected when life changes. Creating safety and stability in the middle of uncertainty.

Every day, we meet people who simply decided that when a child they love needed someone, they would be that someone. 💙

And when families step up, we believe someone should be there to support them, too.

That's why we're here.

Maybe this is your first time hearing about kinship care.

If so, we’re glad you’re here. 🧡

When children cannot safely remain with their parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, older siblings, and close family friends often step forward to care for them.

They say yes to keeping a child safe and connected to family.

But that yes can also mean navigating trauma, legal questions, financial pressure, behavioral needs, unfamiliar systems, and a completely new family dynamic.

Foster Kinship exists so families do not have to navigate that journey alone.

We help kinship families find the resources, guidance, therapeutic support, and community they need to create safe, stable, and nurturing homes for the children in their care.

And this August is an especially meaningful time to discover our mission.

Eligible gifts from new Foster Kinship donors are being matched dollar-for-dollar by the Helms Helps Foundation, making your first gift go twice as far for Southern Nevada children and families.

If you’re new here, we invite you to join us.

And if you already know and support Foster Kinship, share this post with someone who may be learning about kinship care for the very first time.

Sometimes growing a community starts with one introduction.

We have a challenge for our Foster Kinship community:

Share this campaign with one person.

Not everyone who cares about children and families has heard of kinship care.

They may not know that thousands of Nevada children are being raised by grandparents, relatives, older siblings, and close family friends.

They may not know how difficult it can be for caregivers to find therapy, respite care, legal guidance, financial assistance, and trauma-informed support.

And they may not know that Foster Kinship is here.

This August, every eligible first gift from a new donor will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Helms Helps Foundation. That means every new supporter can make twice the impact for Southern Nevada children and kinship families.

But the greatest opportunity extends beyond August.

Every new person who discovers Foster Kinship could become a future donor, volunteer, advocate, community partner, or trusted voice for kinship families.

So today, we are asking you to think of one person:

🫶 Someone who cares deeply about children
🫶 Someone who believes families deserve support before reaching a breaking point
🫶 Someone who wants to create meaningful, local impact

Send them this post. Tag them below. Forward the campaign link with a personal message about why the mission matters to you.

One share. One new supporter. Twice the impact, and the beginning of a relationship that can continue making a difference.

🎒✏️ 150 BACKPACKS + more than 1,000 school supplies! 💙

We are sending a HUGE thank you to Olive Crest for an incredible back-to-school donation for Foster Kinship families!

Last week, their team delivered 150 fully stocked backpacks, along with more than 1,000 additional school supplies including pencils, crayons, pens, paper, rulers, and so much more. 📚🖍️✂️

For many kinship families, stepping in to care for a child means taking on new expenses with very little notice. And when that happens right around the start of a new school year, something as simple as a backpack filled with everything a child needs can make a very real difference.

These supplies will help children across our community walk into school prepared, confident, and ready to learn, while taking one more thing off their caregivers' already-full plates. 💕

Thank you, Olive Crest, for showing up for Nevada's children and families in such a BIG way. We are so grateful for community partners who understand that supporting families often starts with meeting the practical needs right in front of them. 💙

🧸💙 Our shelves just got a whole lot more FUN!

We are incredibly grateful to Melissa & Doug for an amazing donation of toys for the children and families at Foster Kinship! From imaginative play to learning, creating, exploring, and just getting to be a kid, these toys are going to bring SO many smiles to our families. 💕

For children who may be navigating big changes, play is more than just fun. It can be a source of comfort, connection, creativity, and healing, and having quality toys available for our families means so much.

A very special thank you to Linda Connolly, Associate Manager of Trade Shows & Marketing at Melissa & Doug, for helping make this generous donation possible, and to Cathy Pavao and our friends at World Market Center for their support in bringing it all together.

We are continually amazed by the businesses, organizations, and individuals who choose to show up for Nevada's children. Donations like this allow us to surround families with not only the things they need, but also some of the things that simply bring JOY. 💙

Thank you, Melissa & Doug, Linda, Cathy, and everyone who helped make this possible. We can't wait to see these toys find their way into little hands! 🧩🎨🧸✨

A big thank you to Carolyn O’Malley and Assisting Lives Las Vegas (ALLV) for showing up for Foster Kinship families in more ways than one! 🧡

Carolyn recently stopped by Foster Kinship to deliver a generous clothing donation from ALLV for the families we serve. And after dropping everything off, she stayed to volunteer for a full shift, her very first time volunteering with Foster Kinship!

We are so grateful for partners who not only help meet tangible needs, but also give their time and energy to support our work firsthand.

Clothing donations like these help ease some of the everyday expenses kinship caregivers take on when they step in to raise children, and having community members willing to roll up their sleeves alongside us makes that support go even further.

Thank you, Carolyn, and thank you to everyone at Assisting Lives Las Vegas for your generosity, partnership, and continued support of Nevada’s kinship families. We are so grateful to have you in our community! 🧡

💙 It takes a community to strengthen families, and we're so grateful to have United Way of Southern Nevada in ours.

A huge THANK YOU to the incredible marketing team from United Way of Southern Nevada for spending the day volunteering with Foster Kinship! Together they sorted, organized, and prepared clothing that will soon make its way into the hands of children and caregivers who need it most.

Volunteer days like this may only last a few hours, but the impact lasts so much longer. Every shirt folded, every pair of pants sorted, and every rack organized helps us respond more quickly when families suddenly say "yes" to caring for a child.

United Way's partnership goes far beyond this volunteer project. Through grant funding, kit builds, volunteer opportunities, and community initiatives, they continue to invest in stronger families and a stronger Southern Nevada.

We're also excited for United Way's Day of Caring on Friday, September 18, 2026, a community-wide day dedicated to giving back through volunteer service. While Foster Kinship's project is already full (thank you, volunteers! 💙), there are many other organizations that would love your support. If you've been looking for a way to get involved in your community, this is a wonderful opportunity.

Thank you, United Way, for continuing to show up for our families in so many meaningful ways. We truly couldn't do this work alone.
