Caridad

Caridad Humanizing the homeless. Caridad's vision is to end unsheltered homelessness by building modest dignified dwellings. Homeless affects the entire community.

Planters in The Alley and Caridad Gardens will help re-integrate homeless Veterans staying in US Vets transitional shelter program back into the work force. The agency is able to do this at the lowest cost possible by partnering with existing Clark County agencies. Caridad, simply meaning “charity” in Spanish and Portugese. Caridad was originally created in 2010 to collect sock and underwear donat

ions for local homeless charities. The cost ignoring homelessness is far greater than dealing with it proactively. Caridad partners with local homeless agencies, police, and experts on homeless issues to educate the public. Caridad challenges you to take action. Together we can end homelessness.

Back-to-school blessing! 🙌 A huge thank you to Hanes and the Amazing Grace volunteers from Grace Presbyterian Church. Your generous donation of new socks reached both Clark County students in need and our local homeless community. We are so grateful for both of these wonderful partnerships! ❤️ 🧦🫶

Hi everyone, we have an urgent need for two cat fosters to help take Miss Tammy’s cats. She needs to undergo a bit more medical treatment while we work on getting her an apartment.

She has requested, if possible, that the fosters be located in the Henderson area so she can visit her cats during her treatment until they can return home to her. Please let me know if you or anyone you know can help!

Update on Miss Tammy ❤️

• Investigation: We are obtaining security footage to identify who broke into her unit while she was in the hospital.
• Legal Support: We are working with partners to seal the wrongful eviction currently impacting her record.
• Housing Security: Volunteer Cassee is helping her complete Section 8 renewal forms. Fortunately, because the eviction violated fair housing laws, her housing voucher remains safe.
• Fostering: Volunteer Ali is caring for her beloved cats while we search for a new home.

Thank you, Cassee & Ali! We are incredibly grateful to both of you. Your support allows Miss Tammy to focus on getting healthy while we secure a safe new home for her and her kitties.

Judge finds that HUD violated the Administrative Procedure Act! "As a result, this Court must set aside the 2026 NOFO in its entirety."

Back to the drawing board. In legal terms, HUD must proffer it in complete accordance with the Administrative Procedure Act; otherwise, the court will shut it down again, forcing them to redraft it. In layman's terms, this means the 2025 NOFO (Notice of Funding Opportunity) has still not been released for 2026. While most agencies have some reserves, this funding usually arrives around February. Agencies across the country are expressing concern, as these funds are critical to keeping their doors open.

With a heavy heart, we share the passing of another beloved Caridad family member, Gary. Gary became acquainted with Caridad when we took over the dT-alley for our jobs program. He was living in the alley and caused no trouble, so the team let him stay as they cleaned the area daily. For weeks he politely declined assistance, but then one day he spoke up and asked for help—and the rest was history.

Gary was born and raised in California but ended up in Iowa after he got out of the Army. He retired after working for the University of Iowa and moved to Las Vegas for a job offer that unfortunately fell through. He was later hired by Caridad, starting with our dT-alley crew and eventually moving to Hebron security. He worked at Hebron from 2020 to 2025, when he retired from Caridad and started drawing his VA and Iowa benefits. Gary loved the Grateful Dead and his beloved dog, Homie.

We will miss you, Gary! (1962-2026)
