Today, while attending the 2026 National Ryan White Conference, I had the incredible privilege of hearing Ryan White’s mother share their family’s story. I knew Ryan’s story. I knew the history. But hearing it through the eyes of his mother was something entirely different.
She spoke about her son contracting AIDS after receiving Factor VIII, the blood-clotting treatment he needed because of his hemophilia. She shared not only the facts, but the deeply personal moments, the fear, the heartbreak, the courage, and the unwavering love of a mother fighting for her child. As a mother myself, there were so many small details that brought me to tears.
Many people may not know that I now serve as the Director of Operations for a Ryan White clinic. Moments like today remind me that this is so much more than a job. It is a calling. Every day, I have the privilege of serving a community that continues to face barriers and stigma, while helping ensure people receive the compassionate, life-changing care they deserve.
Ryan White’s legacy lives on through every patient cared for, every stigma challenged, and every life made better because someone chose compassion over fear.
Today left me humbled, inspired, and incredibly grateful. I thank God for allowing me to do work that truly matters.
