Nevada Donor Network is a federally designated 501(c)3 not-for-profit organ procurement organization (OPO) also responsible for facilitating tissue and cornea donation statewide. Founded in 1987, our core purpose is to provide hope strength and life to more than 2 million people in the state of Nevada and thousands of potential transplant recipients across the country. Our primary functions as an OPO are to coordinate, recover and allocate lifesaving organs and healing tissues for transplantation and research on behalf of our heroic donors. We provide education to hospital staff and community partners on the referral and donation process and provide a strong network of support for the courageous donor families who save lives through the gift of donation. Nevada Donor Network is a member of Donate Life Nevada, a statewide collaboration of agencies committed to motivating Nevada residents to register as organ, eye and tissue donors.

It is World Sight Day, and we are honored to share that in 2025, our team helped 1,586 heroic donors give the gift of sight to people desperately waiting all around the world to have their vision restored. When a heroic donor gives the gift of sight, it is not their entire eye that is transplanted. Instead, only the cornea (the clear, dome-shaped surface that covers the front of the eye) is replaced, which restores sight for people suffering from cornea-related blindness. In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, we would like to share stories from our selfless team members who make organ, eye and tissue donation happen each day. Meet Linett, a family services coordinator I with Nevada Donor Network. She shared, “My favorite tradition from my Salvadorean roots that I truly love is that for Thanksgiving we have “panes con pollo” as our dinner and for Christmas Eve my mom and I make Salvadorean tamales. Both dishes are never eaten on any other day except for these major holidays, which makes them a very special tradition. Those memories and traditions are ones I hope to continue to pass along for many more generations to come. In my free time, I enjoy watching a variety of Spanish series on Netflix and listening to Latin music whenever I can. What I love most about my role at Nevada Donor Network is having the opportunity to help support families in our Hispanic/Latino communities in our native language, Spanish. When it comes to grief and loss, they are already difficult on their own. However, it can be more challenging when you are talking to someone who may not fully understand from a cultural standpoint where your beliefs come from (this includes cultural values). To be that person who can help be their voice means everything to me. This especially matters when I can share how their loved one's legacy can continue to live on through the rare opportunity to help save and heal lives through organ, eye and tissue donation.” Would you like to join our team and work with inspiring leaders like Linett?
