🎙️. 🌱
Build what God told you to build.

Even if they don’t understand it yet.
Even if they don’t clap for it yet.
Even if you’re still figuring it out as you go.

Researchers and clinicians have spent decades developing and validating assessment tools to better understand the experiences of the people we serve.

The emerging men’s mental health literature invites us to ask an important question:

Are our assessment tools sensitive enough to recognize emotional distress when it presents differently?

Research suggests some men may experience and express distress through irritability, anger, emotional suppression, risk taking behaviors, substance use, withdrawal, or physical symptoms rather than sadness alone.

This is not an argument against evidence based assessments. It is a reminder that evidence based practice requires us to continually examine whether our tools are capturing the lived experiences of the people sitting across from us.

The question is not whether assessment tools exist.

The question is whether we are asking the right questions.

Because effective care begins with understanding what we are measuring and who we are measuring it for.

As we recognize Men’s Health Month, I’m proud to prepare for the 5th Annual Las Vegas Men’s Health & Wellness Conference.

Five years ago, I created this space for men.

From the beginning, this conference has been grounded in the Eight Dimensions of Wellness framework because health is multidimensional and supporting men’s health requires a whole person approach.

Because representation matters. It was important to me that men could see themselves reflected in the professionals providing education, resources, and support. Whether it’s a mental health therapist, physician, financial consultant, spiritual advisor, or community leader, men deserve opportunities to learn from and connect with professionals who understand both the research and the lived experiences that shape men’s lives.

While Friday welcomes the broader community for an evening of connection and networking, Saturday is intentionally reserved for men and led by male speakers, professionals, and community leaders.

In 2022, during our inaugural year, I was deeply humbled and honored as the City of Las Vegas issued a proclamation officially recognizing June as Men’s Health Month in the City of Las Vegas.

I remain deeply grateful to the City of Las Vegas, every volunteer, supporter, community partner, speaker, and attendee who has helped make this vision possible. Your continued partnership, collaboration, trust, and commitment have allowed us to grow this work year after year.

My goal remains simple: create the space and allow men to lead the conversation.

Because it takes a village. 💙

Fun fact about rest: Rest is part of the journey too. 🤍

So many people see the conferences, the projects, the speaking engagements, the movement, and all the things happening behind the scenes… but what people don’t always see is how intentional I am about shutting it all down when it’s time.

Mental health is not just about learning how to push through. It’s also about learning when to pause, disconnect, say no, and protect your peace. Chronic stress and constantly being “on” impacts the nervous system, the body, the mind, and even our ability to create, laugh, experience joy, and simply function well.

You cannot be everywhere for everybody all the time. You cannot accept everything all the time. And while it may look like I do a lot, I actually do a really good job of putting things in their place and honoring seasons where I do nothing extra outside of the things that truly matter and the things that consistently sustain me.

Rest is not laziness.
Rest is restoration.
Rest is regulation.
Rest is necessary.

That’s how we stay well.
That’s how we remain creative.
That’s how we continue showing up healthy for ourselves and others.

I want everybody to win, but every project, invitation, opportunity, or assignment is not always meant for me — and that’s okay.

Sometimes the healthiest thing you can do for your mind, body, and spirit is shut it all down for a while and do nothing… but just be. 🌊✨

In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, this is your gentle reminder that rest and recovery are necessary parts of the work.

A few years ago, I created a self-awareness framework and shared it last May. As I prepare for my newest article to go live, I felt called to revisit it because it still holds so much value.

What is S.E.L.F. Awareness?

The S.E.L.F. Framework stands for:
Stillness
Emotions
Listening
Flow

Each pillar invites us to reconnect with the parts of ourselves that often get lost in the noise of daily life. Whether you are a professional, a parent, a caregiver, or simply doing your best to make it through the day, this model meets you where you are and gently guides you back home to yourself.

See the link in bio to read the full article.

If you haven’t subscribed to Brainz Magazine, I highly encourage you to do so and follow my page. It’s a free subscription, and I will continue sharing free, evidence-based educational materials to support you on your health and wellness journey.

As a clinician and subject matter expert, it’s important to me that what I share is not only accessible, but grounded in Evidence-based practices and meaningful in practice. Take what you need and apply it in a way that works best for you.

And I almost forgot to share… in January 2026, I became a Senior Executive Contributor for Brainz Magazine 👩🏽‍💻

More pieces are on the way, so stay tuned for my May 2026 article. But for now, let’s take a moment to pause and revisit this classic.
