🗣️ How Nevada powers new data centers is a public health decision, not just an energy one.

NV Energy's long-term energy plan could push data centers to 64% of the state's electricity sales by 2046, backed by three new methane gas plants.

91% of Nevadans already live in a community with unhealthy air, according to the American Lung Association's 2026 "State of the Air" report, and it's Nevada's 49,000 kids with asthma who feel it most.

Dr. Julpohng Vilai, a Las Vegas pediatrician and vice president of the Nevada chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, is asking state regulators to weigh those health costs before approving NV Energy's new gas plants.

Solar, geothermal, and battery storage can meet the same demand without the smog.

Nevada regulators are about to decide how the state powers a wave of new data centers, and the choice isn’t just financial.

NV Energy’s 2026 Integrated Resource Plan proposes three new methane gas plants, a $5-6 billion investment, largely to hedge against data center demand that is still uncertain.

Burning more gas means more pollution. Nevada is already home to 49,000 children with asthma, and Las Vegas ranks among the most ozone-polluted metro areas in the country.

Dr. Julpohng Vilai, a Las Vegas pediatrician and Vice President of the Nevada chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, argues the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada (PUCN) should weigh those health costs as they plan for rising electricity demand from data centers.

His alternative? Pair Nevada’s solar and geothermal resources with battery storage to meet rising demand without new gas plants.
