Nobody bid on 20,600 acres of Nevada public land for oil and gas.

Two weeks later, it went back up for auction... Zero bids again.

A 2025 law requires the Bureau of Land Management to rerun lease sales that flop.

Now this land opens to noncompetitive leasing. A company can claim it for a fee starting at $75, plus the first year's rent.

Our public land managers should focus on wildfire prevention, wildlife habitat and the lands we all share. Every auction nobody asked for pulls them away from that work.

Nevada isn’t an oil and gas state. So why are Congress and the Trump administration forcing our local Bureau of Land Management to act like we are? 🤔

On Sept. 16, the BLM offered over 20,000 acres of Nevada land for oil and gas leasing. The result? ZERO bids. And yet, because of new federal mandates, the BLM is being forced to re-offer these exact same leases again TOMORROW.

Instead of holding open a revolving-door of unwanted oil and gas lease sales, our public land managers should focus on what actually benefits Nevada:

🔥 Wildfire treatments
🦌 Habitat and access improvements
🌳 And preservation of the lands we all share.

🏭 Nevada regulators are about to decide how a new wave of data centers are powered, and we could foot the bill.

NV Energy’s 2026 Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) introduces 1,223 MW of new gas capacity. Each of the three gas plants is estimated to cost $1-2 billion per project.

Google invested $10 million in no-cost home energy upgrades for Nevada households.
A $1 billion transmission project broke ground in Jean, adding 155 miles of power lines from Las Vegas to Pahrump by 2028.
And the U.S. House passed a bill 417–3 to stop data centers from shifting their grid costs onto your electricity bill.

At this year’s Home Means Nevada Awards Dinner, we’re proud to recognize the people and organizations whose leadership is protecting Nevada’s air, land, water, and health.

Rev. Leonard Jackson is being honored posthumously with the Harry Reid Lifetime Achievement Award for a lifetime spent advocating for equality, justice, and opportunity across Nevada.

Kim Garrison-Means is receiving the Green Guardian Award for the grassroots leadership that helped establish Avi Kwa Ame National Monument in 2023, and her dedication as the Executive Director of Friends of Avi Kwa Ame.

Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe is receiving the Green Impact Award for making environmental stewardship a core part of how it protects the Tahoe region.
