ʟᴇᴀʀɴ ᴍᴏʀᴇ ᴀʙᴏᴜᴛ ʜᴇʀ:

My name is Lily Zimmer, ever since I came out of my mother’s womb, horses have been the only thing on my mind. I can still remember my first riding lesson today, being on a black mare named Molly in a western saddle up in San Louis Obispo by my grandparents house. Once I got older I started a summer camp at the barn closest to my house and ever since then I have always done English at the same barn. Growing up as a working student can be hard but from hard work and dedication came so many opportunities that I am forever grateful for.

My goal is to not only go pro but to help others that are in the same situation as me, and give back what I have received in my riding career to the little kids with a passion for horses. So excited for what this year will bring with the CDP Foundation and all the sponsors who make this possible including Pony Suds, threemares.co, The Clothes Horse and NOËLLE FLOYD. Excited to learn and grow this year at Nilforushan Equisport Events and Desert Horse Park . So excited not only to make my dreams a reality but grow enough to make other people dreams a reality too. And prove that hard work and dedication can work in the exclusive sport.

𝕄𝔼𝔼𝕋 𝕊𝕆ℙℍ𝕀𝔼 𝔽𝕀𝔻𝕃𝔼ℝ- 2026 CDP FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP WINNER, .

“My name is Sophie Fidler, I am 20 years old, and I ride with Jamie Lund in Vista, CA. I am incredibly honored to be selected as a recipient of the CDP Foundation Scholarship—words truly cannot express my gratitude.

My journey with horses began when I was 7 years old during a family trail ride in Ireland. From that moment on, riding has been the constant thread running through every chapter of my life. Horses became my way of surviving tragedy, my therapy, my source of identity, and gave me purpose when I felt directionless.

For the past 13+ years, I’ve ridden and competed on the county circuit, primarily in hunters and equitation. I grew up at a hands-on sale barn, learning the importance of horsemanship and gaining valuable experience on a wide variety of different rides. I got my current horse Oliver in 2021, who took me from 2’6 to 3’3 in just a year. Most recently, I rode for the UC Davis IHSA Hunter/Jumper team from 2023-2025 while obtaining my Bachelor’s in Animal Science. Now I’m back home from college, balancing riding Oliver with my full-time job, and am more than ready to hit the show ring with my boy and pick up where we left off.

This scholarship represents so much more than an opportunity to compete. I’m deeply grateful to the CDP Foundation, and look forward to continuing to grow as a rider while honoring Carol Dean-Porter’s legacy through horsemanship, mentorship, and giving back to the horse community. 𝕄𝔼𝔼𝕋 𝔸𝕍𝔸 𝔾ℝ𝔸ℕ𝕋 - 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗖𝗗𝗣 𝗙𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗦𝗖𝗛𝗢𝗟𝗔𝗥𝗦𝗛𝗜𝗣 𝗪𝗜𝗡𝗡𝗘𝗥, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙄𝙂 𝙏𝙖𝙠𝙚-𝙊𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙠𝙚𝙣𝙙 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝘿𝙄𝙃𝙋. We caught up with .avag to learn more about her:

“Hi, my name is Ava Grant. I’ve been riding since I was 6 years old and have stayed with my first barn, Aspen Hill Farm, training under Judy Nielson. Horses have always been a huge part of my life. I grew up loving Jessie from Toy Story and dreamed of having a pony of my own. When I was 9, my parents got me my first pony, Silver Dollar, and that’s where everything really began. Today, I compete in the Amateur 1.20s with my current horse, Nespresso V.V.

Riding has carried me through some of the hardest moments in my life, including the loss of my dad. My pony helped me stay grounded during that time and kept my passion alive. Outside of the barn, I’m a freshman at UNLV studying Business Administration with a focus in Marketing. I also work part-time at In-N-Out and do pet sitting to help support my riding, which has taught me a lot about responsibility, time management, and commitment.

Being selected as a CDP Foundation scholarship recipient this year means so much to me. It has given me access to mentorship, opportunities, and experiences I wouldn’t have had otherwise. I’m incredibly grateful to the foundation and its sponsors for supporting riders like me as we continue working toward our goals.”

“Hi everyone! My name is Margo Mukherjee, and I ride in Portola Valley with Lara Connolly. My horse’s name is Eflenn and we do the 1.10m jumpers together.

The best part of my day is when I get to go the barn. I obviously love to ride but I’m also perfectly content just being around the horses, grooming and watching lessons. I’ve always had to figure out unique ways to ride competitively, but I can say with full conviction I’m living out all of my wildest childhood dreams today. I worked my tail off in college to graduate with two degrees while serving as the captain of my college equestrian team because I knew when I graduated I needed to be able to keep horses in my life. While it isn’t easy and I’m usually the first or last person at the barn every day trying to fit in barn time between meetings, riding in the dark, or picking up odd jobs to try to be able to afford it all, I feel so incredibly lucky to be able to do what I love most in life. Not only do I get to be around horses every day, but I have the most wonderful ever-growing community of people who have always done everything they can to help me, and a horse who takes the absolute best care of me.

Being a CDP scholarship recipient this year, has opened up doors to mentoring and showing opportunities I’ve only ever dreamed of. Thank you to the foundation and its sponsors for lifting up and supporting all of the scholarship recipients in our journeys this year!”
