Great training program coming up through the National Indian Youth Council:

National Indian Youth Council Launches Production Assistant Training Program to Expand Film Workforce Pathways Across New Mexico

Two-day training in Las Cruces, Las Vegas, Santa Fe, and Albuquerque will prepare emerging crew members for careers in film, television, commercial, and digital media production.

ALBUQUERQUE, NM — The National Indian Youth Council’s Film & Media Program, and the Native Professional Advancement Center, is proud to announce a Production Assistant Training Program in collaboration with the Group Effort Initiative. The two-day, industry-aligned training will provide hands-on workforce readiness and career preparation for individuals interested in entering New Mexico’s growing film and media production industry.

The training will focus on the day-to-day operations of the locations department while helping participants gain practical experience, build industry knowledge, and connect with filmmakers, production professionals, and workforce partners.

The Production Assistant Training Program will be offered in four New Mexico communities:

Las Cruces, NM — June 26–27, 2026
Las Vegas, NM — July 10–11, 2026
Santa Fe, NM — July 17–18, 2026
Albuquerque, NM — July 24–25, 2026

The program will introduce participants to key responsibilities of production assistant work, with a specific focus on location-based production needs. Participants will gain insight into set operations, crew expectations, professional communication, safety, preparation, and the fast-paced demands of film and media work. The collaboration with the Group Effort Initiative reflects NPAC/NIYC’s broader commitment to expanding workforce opportunities in film and media while ensuring Native, rural, and historically underrepresented communities have access to career pathways in the entertainment industry.

Program highlights include:

Hands-on training to gain practical experience and industry knowledge
Real-world exposure to career pathways in New Mexico’s film industry
Industry connections with filmmakers and production professionals
Locations PA training focused on the day-to-day operations of the locations department

The Production Assistant Training Program is part of NPAC’s growing Film & Media Program, which works to connect emerging Native and local talent with training, mentorship, and professional opportunities in New Mexico’s film, television, commercial, and digital media ecosystem.

Registration is now open. For more information contact Julius Roanhorse directly for more information
