RSV CASE AT BHoF WEEKENDER

Hi everyone! We have learned that a person attending the Weekender was diagnosed with RSV. Typically RSV does not present much of a threat but if you are immunocompromised it could be a problem, so to be on the safe side we thought it best to inform people to keep an eye out for RSV symptoms and/or get tested if you are concerned. The incubation period for RSV is 4-6 days so today and tomorrow are when you'd start feeling sick; symptoms are generally cold-like, including runny noses, coughing, sneezing, and congestion. RSV is usually spread through coughing and sneezing and since the individual affected did not show symptoms themselves until Sunday, it's not likely it was spread, but just in case we thought it best to let you know.

Take care of yourselves and hope to see you next year!

TO ALL LIVESTREAM VIEWERS

First of all, I'm so sorry about the issues we've had with the stream. We are working hard to get answers and get you the stuff you missed, but I know this has been a disaster for everyone who just wanted to watch the Saturday showcase live.

I've written to our streaming provider to find out what went wrong and what we can do about it. I don't expect to hear back today, since it's Sunday, but hope we get some answers soon.

We are going to export a version of the original file that can be uploaded to the streaming site so you can watch the missing parts. These will be available until June 27. I hope to get it up today but I don't know how long it will take to get the file rendered to a size we can actually upload. This will be the whole Saturday showcase with no missing acts.

For people that bought a second stream or were charged twice, we'll get those second charges reversed. Email me at [email protected] (use subject line STREAMING REFUND REQUESTED so I can find it) and I'll get you taken care of as soon as possible.

I'm also looking into issuing partial refunds for the Saturday/Full-Weekend stream purchasers. This is one of the questions I've asked our provider, as I haven't found how to do this on their site.

If you missed everything after the stream dropped, at least some of that is in the Facebook Live we managed to get set up after the failure. That's on the Weekender page at http://facebook.com/bhofweekend -- there are a few missing acts but the award ceremony and last couple acts are there.

I apologize deeply for all the confusion. Please bear with me as I do what I can to fix things.

--Dustin

STATEMENT FROM THE PRODUCERS

During the Movers, Shakers, and Innovators Showcase last night, a performer pointed a prop pistol into the audience and swept it across the room. The producers of the showcase were not informed of this addition to the act and therefore did not include a trigger warning for this action, which is our normal policy. We have informed the performer that in any future appearances at the BHoF Weekender, controversial content like this should be discussed with the producers so that appropriate trigger warnings can be issued, and we will be double-checking for any similarly troubling content in acts throughout the rest of the Weekender. We apologize to anyone who was upset by this performance and promise to work harder to ensure that challenging content is correctly highlighted so that our audience is prepared and audience members who may be affected negatively can leave the theater if needed.

Accessibility at the Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekender is an ongoing practice.

The Burlesque Hall of Fame Accessibility Committee was formed in 2023 to support more equitable participation across all aspects of the Weekender, from performance and adjudication to audience experience, venue access, backstage conditions, and public-facing communication.

The Committee brings together working artists and practitioners with lived and professional experience across burlesque and disability, including Alyssa Kitt Hanley, Jacqueline Boxx, Lakota Shekar, and VaVa Vashti, with prior contributions from Apple Angel, working alongside Director Dustin Wax.

Our work is both practical and structural. We collaborate with producers, venue staff, volunteers, performers, and community members to identify barriers to access and implement site-specific solutions within the realities of a large-scale live event. Our work responds to the specific conditions of each venue, event structure, and community context.

Since 2023, the Committee has contributed to key changes, including review of judging frameworks and selection criteria; the development of an accessibility addendum for more inclusive evaluation practices; earlier integration of accessibility into production planning; venue walkthroughs; backstage assessments; performer circulation planning; quiet / low-sensory space; ASL interpretation; accessible seating and service models; and expanded Know Before You Go materials.

Our approach is responsive and iterative. Working within the constraints of historic venues, production timelines, and live performance environments, we focus on identifying barriers in real conditions, implementing practical and achievable solutions, and building accessibility into the structure of the event.

Accessibility at the Burlesque Hall of Fame continues to evolve. Our work includes ongoing review of adjudication frameworks, performer experience, audience access and experience, and communication strategies, as well as developing longer-term approaches to inclusion across the field.

We welcome feedback and engagement from performers, attendees, and community members as part of this process.
