Randi Evers Disappearance– Las Vegas, Nevada (1992)
Three-year-old Randi Evers was last seen between 11:30 p.m. on February 15 and 12:30 a.m. on February 16, 1992. He was asleep, wrapped in a blanket, on the living room floor of his family’s home in the 300 block of East Rochelle Avenue in Las Vegas, Nevada.
That evening, Randi’s family hosted a birthday party for his father, Mike Evers, with about 15 guests in attendance. It is believed Randi disappeared during the party. Authorities have said it was unlikely that he wandered outside on his own, as the weather was cold and Randi was known to be afraid of the dark.
Initial investigations considered the possibility of a family-related incident. Mike and his wife, Tina Evers (Randi’s stepmother), reportedly did not participate in the search. Mike was reportedly reluctant to get out of bed when police informed him that Randi was missing, and both Mike and Tina showed little apparent concern for the situation.
Tina’s alibi contained inconsistencies. She claimed that she and several friends left the party at 11:30 p.m. to go to the Gold Coast Casino, leaving Randi in the care of an adult guest who had passed out on the couch. Mike’s exact whereabouts at the time are unclear—he may have been with Tina or asleep in another room. When the group returned around 3:30 a.m., Randi was gone. Despite an extensive search, no trace of him was found.
Mike and Tina later moved to southern California four years after Randi’s disappearance, divorced, and had a son together. There have been no reported issues with their daughter (born before Randi’s disappearance) or their son (born after). Authorities have stated that while the couple was not particularly cooperative with the investigation, they did not actively avoid law enforcement.
Over the years, various theories have emerged, including that Randi was sold, accidentally or intentionally harmed by family members, or abducted by a stranger, family friend, or his biological mother. None of these theories have been confirmed.
Most individuals connected to the case, except investigators, have since left Las Vegas. Randi’s biological mother, who lived in Southern California at the time and had legal custody, is still alive. Mike Evers passed away in 2014. In 2022, when contacted by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Tina declined to comment, stating, “You guys have ruined my family. The police have ruined my family,” and asked to be left alone.
A Nevada grand jury reviewed evidence related to the case after Randi’s disappearance, but no indictments were issued. The case remains open and unsolved.
In 2015, a detective working on the case reported receiving a DNA match in a database and expressed belief that Randi may be alive and living somewhere in the western United States. Due to the uncertainty surrounding the circumstances of his disappearance, the case is being treated as a potential non-family abduction.
