Betancourt Missions The harvest is plentiful, the workers are few, and billions still wait to hear the name of Jesus for the first time. Christ is worthy of it all

It is our desire to stir the Church to live a missional life.

🎉There’s no better way to close out our time in the Philippines this year than with news like this.

Andrew and Gilda Scribner have been faithfully serving God in Dumaguete City for over two decades, leading a local church, running a children’s sponsorship charity, partaking in prison ministry, and reaching the local community with the Gospel. They are the real deal.

We are honored to welcome them to the Betancourt Missions family as our newest missionaries. What God has been building through them for 20+ years, we now get to come alongside and support.

Please take a moment to pray for and welcome Pastor Andrew and his wife Gilda to our team as they continue their work on the ground in the Philippines.

15 graduates. 3 churches. 7 facilitators. One mission.

We just wrapped our 7th Kairos course and we couldn’t be more encouraged by what God is doing!

Kairos is a 9-session discipleship course that dives into the mission of God and how we can play a part in it. Over these sessions, our graduates explored the missiology of the Old and New Testaments, traced the history of God’s work through His Church, and wrestled with real questions about mission strategy and cross-cultural ministry.

Most importantly, each participant was challenged to look at the blessings in their own life and ask: how can I use these to be a blessing to those who haven’t yet heard the Gospel?

With 3 senior pastors among our 7 facilitators, this was a beautiful picture of the local church mobilizing together for the nations.

To our 15 graduates: we are proud of you and are praying for you. The harvest is waiting.

“The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” - Luke 10:2 (NKJV)

"There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all."

— Paul of Tarsus, Ephesians 4:4-6

One Body, One Mission
One of the most encouraging things a believer can witness is the body of Christ functioning the way God designed it to. Not one person carrying it all. Not one church doing everything alone. But many members, many gifts, and many backgrounds moving together in one Spirit toward one calling.

This is exactly what we are seeing as we prepare for a Kairos course beginning May 25th here in Dumaguete. Three senior pastors, each leading significantly impactful ministries of their own, have set aside an entire week to invest in the discipleship of those who attend. Six local churches have been actively promoting the course. Personal invitations have gone out far and wide. This is not a program. It is the body of Christ assembling itself around the Great Commission.

We have a handful of slots still to fill, but we are anticipating God to move greatly and to glorify Himself through our prayers and labors. Who knows what fruit this course will produce and what ripple effects it could have for the Kingdom. Please join us in praying and believing for that.

A Generous Surprise
One of our standing prayers since arriving back in the Philippines has been for safer transportation. With the three of us sharing a scooter, getting around has been quite the risky adventure. Recently, a family at Calvary Chapel Dumaguete noticed our situation and felt a burden from the Lord to let us use their second family vehicle for the remainder of our time here.

We were humbled and overwhelmed to say the least. This is the kind of provision that only God can orchestrate. Matthew 6:8 says, "For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him." We did not have to explain ourselves or make a formal appeal. God simply moved in the heart of a willing family, and they responded in obedience. What a good Father we have!

Rooted in Fellowship
We have also been getting more deeply planted in the local community through two home fellowships sanctioned by Calvary Chapel Dumaguete. Week by week, we are meeting new people, studying the Word together, breaking bread, and encouraging one another in faith. For our family, this has been a tremendous blessing and a real source of life. Being on mission does not mean being without community. God has been kind to weave us into one here, and we are grateful.

Family Updates
Cherrybee is doing well through pregnancy and is growing right along with baby Betancourt, who is very active in the womb. We are so excited to meet him or her in early September! We plan to attend Cherrybee's brother's wedding before heading back to the United States in late June for the final stretch of the pregnancy. We are still trusting God for housing and transportation accommodations upon our return, and we know He will provide in His perfect timing.

It has been a blessing to see how Amaryah grows day to day. She has memorized her ABCs and is also learning to write them. She communicates with remarkable clarity and understanding. Her curiosity is limitless and her joy is contagious. We are committed to pouring Jesus into her and pray she grows to be a great light, empowered by the Holy Spirit to do God's will.

As we transition back to the US, I am also pursuing employment in a tentmaking capacity to help support our family while remaining committed to ministry. Timothy Sanford and I are co-laboring on two writing projects as well: a new discipleship course and a 12-month daily devotional compilation designed to help believers develop a more intimate prayer life. We are asking the Lord for clear vision and fruitful writing time as these take shape.

Prayer Requests
-That God would move powerfully through the Kairos course
-Continued provision and monthly ministry support
-Discipleship opportunities as we transition back to the US
-Effective writing time and clear vision from the Lord for the devotional and discipleship projects
-Housing and transportation upon our return to the US
-Peace and health for Cherrybee throughout her third trimester
-That Amaryah would grow in the Lord and shine His light wherever she goes

“Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

- Paul of Tarsus, Philippians 1:6

A Life Fully Spent
The life of Dawson Trotman has been weighing on my heart lately in the best possible way. Trotman was the founder of The Navigators, a man who gave everything he had to the cause of multiplying disciples. He took 2 Timothy 2:2 seriously, not just as a verse to quote, but as a way of life. He poured himself into individuals, trusting that faithfulness to the process of multiplication would produce fruit that outlasted his own life. And it did. He passed away in 1956, while rescuing a drowning young woman. A sacrifice of love so great, Billy Graham stated at Dawson's funeral: “Daws died the same way he lived: holding others up”

What strikes me most about Trotman is not the programs he built or the organization he founded. It’s that he simply made himself available. He was faithful with what was in front of him. He once said, “If you can’t see very far ahead, go ahead as far as you can see.” That kind of forward-moving obedience is something I find myself coming back to in this season. We don’t always have the full picture. Plans shift. Timelines move. But we keep showing up, trusting that God is the One doing the real work and that He is faithful to complete it.

MissionConnexion Northwest
In January, we had the privilege of conducting The Unfinished Story for Youth at the MissionConnexion Northwest conference in Portland. Over the course of two days, we ran two course offerings and saw 56 participants go through the material. We were joined by an incredible team, partnering with Bret Johnson of The Hastening, three young mobilizers with Frontiers, Max, Michael, Tessa, and Bianca Soriano. It was an encouraging reminder of what God can do when His people come together around His mission. We are grateful for partnerships like these and pray they continue to bear fruit in the seasons ahead.

Life in the Philippines
After spending 5 months in the US and spending time with friends, family, and ministry partners, our family returned to the Philippines for a season. We arrived in mid-February and have been settling into a good rhythm. It has been a quieter, more relational season. We have been visiting churches and ministries in the area, connecting with local leaders, and doing some personal witnessing along the way. One memorable interaction was with a Muslim couple visiting from the Maldives. God has a way of placing people in your path at just the right moment, and we are grateful to be available when He does.

We have also been putting work into our home here with the long-term vision of using it to host guests for discipleship and ministry. We replaced four windows that were in bad shape, tinted the rest, and are currently building a half wall upstairs to close off an open stairwell. These might sound like small things, but we believe in preparing the space God has given us so that it can eventually serve His people well.

Courses on the Horizon
We are believing God for a Kairos course tentatively scheduled for late May and an Unfinished Story for Youth course potentially in June. These are the very things we came here for, to see a Biblical worldview take root in local churches and to equip Filipino leaders for the mobilization of their own people. We are in conversations with key leaders in the area and are trusting God to bring the right people together at the right time. Please pray with us for these doors to open fully.

Growing Family Update
We are blessed to share that Cherrybee is expecting our second child! We are planning to remain in the Philippines through late June, at which point we will head back to the United States for her third trimester. We are trusting God for housing and transportation accommodations as we make that transition. Amaryah continues to be a joy wherever we go. She is so natural at breaking the ice and making everyone around her smile. We are grateful for God’s grace over our little family and are looking forward to welcoming the newest Betancourt in early September.

Thank you for taking the time to read about what's going on in our lives. We covet your prayers always (prayer requests below). Until next time, be blessed and be a blessing!

70 years ago, a man who gave everything, including his life, left behind a legacy that is still multiplying.

On June 18, 1956, Dawson Trotman, founder of The Navigators, lost his life at Schroon Lake, New York, drowning while rescuing a young girl from the water. He was 50 years old. At his funeral, Billy Graham mourned his friend, saying he had “personally touched more lives than anyone I have ever known.”
But Dawson’s story isn’t truly about death.

It’s about multiplication.

Anyone who uses the word “disciple” as a verb and not just a noun is testifying to the lasting influence of Trotman. He believed the Great Commission wasn’t fulfilled by filling seats. It was fulfilled by investing deeply in people who would go and do the same. His signature question was simple: “Where’s your man?” A driving challenge for anyone committed to producing reproducers.

That question still echoes today. Who are you pouring into? Who is pouring into you?
Swipe through to explore Dawson’s life, his model of mobilization, and how you can carry that flame forward.

New York
For the past year, it has been on our hearts to visit New York. Fourteen years ago, the church in Syracuse, NY, Berean Calvary Chapel, was instrumental in Ryan’s return to Christ, and this visit felt especially meaningful. We were blessed to reconnect and witness how God continues to work in the lives of the believers there. We are deeply thankful for the warmth and hospitality of our hosts, Pastor Frank and his family. We also experienced a snowstorm, which is definitely not fun when you’re outside or driving, but even in that, God reminded us of His power and presence. Visiting Niagara Falls was a beautiful reminder of how great and majestic the God we serve truly is.

Las Vegas
We are now back in Las Vegas, waiting and praying for what God has for us next. Thank you for continually lifting us up in prayer and for your faithful support. This season is teaching us to trust God even when the road ahead isn’t clear. As Scripture reminds us, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths” (Proverbs 3:5–6, NKJV). Walking by faith is both exciting and challenging—much like driving through a snowstorm. You may not see far ahead, but you keep moving forward, trusting God to guide each step, going as far as you can see.

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8–9)

Every season has reminded us that this journey is not about our plans, but about God’s faithfulness. Looking back, we see His hand in every provision, every closed door, and every unexpected blessing. As we step into this new year, we do so humbled and hopeful, trusting Him—for His glory alone.

As the month of January comes to an end, we want to share a glimpse of how God has been moving in our lives. This season has been one of dependence, trust, and constant reminders of His faithfulness.
For the past four months since returning to the U.S., the Betancourts have been staying in friends’ homes, and we are deeply grateful for the hospitality and generosity that has surrounded us. Ryan sought employment to help with additional expenses during this time, but the Lord closed that door. Even in that, God has been faithful—never failing to keep His promises—and He has provided for our family in abundant and unexpected ways.

January 16–17 | Portland, Oregon
Together with several co-laborers in the Lord, the Betancourts attended MissionConnexxion Northwest and had the privilege of leading a two-day TUSFY. More than 70 participants, including leaders, joined us. It was a fruitful and encouraging time, and once again, God reminded us that He is at work—doing great things, despite us.

What an incredible weekend we had up in Portland at the MissionConnexion conference. The Betancourts teamed up with Bret Johnson of The Hastening and a handful of others from Las Vegas and Los Angeles to run 2 1-day mobilization courses for upwards of 70 youth and youth leaders. We want to offered a special thanks to those who facilitated the courses as well as those who coordinated and promoted it. Praise God for His wonderful blessings and the purpose-filled life He alone gives us.
