🎉 On Wednesday, August 19, we came together to celebrate National Nonprofit Day and the people who power Southern Nevada’s nonprofit community!

Nevada GrantLab, United Way of Southern Nevada and Blind Center of Nevada welcomed nonprofit professionals, partners, and community members for an evening of connection, conversation, and celebration.

A highlight of the evening was a fireside chat with Dr. Ali Caliendo of Foster Kinship, moderated by GrantLab’s Dr. Sheetal Survase, reflecting on leadership, service, and Dr. Caliendo’s 16 years of building and leading Foster Kinship.

👏 A huge thank you to Dr. Caliendo for sharing her insights and to the nonprofit professionals, board members, volunteers, and partners who continue to show up for our communities every day.

We were grateful for the opportunity to celebrate you!

☕ Can a $400 espresso machine be an investment in a nonprofit’s mission?

In a recent piece, Oregon Youth Soccer Association Executive Director Simon Date makes the case that supporting employees and supporting the mission aren’t competing priorities.

His argument: programs require people. And people require tools, training, communication, leadership, and workplace culture to help them to do their best work.

That conversation is also part of the People learning track at the 2026 Southern Nevada Nonprofit Summit, where we'll explore strategies to build a stronger, more resilient nonprofit workforce by investing in employee well-being, creating clear career pathways, and intentionally developing the next generation of leaders.

On Thursday, 8/6, we kicked off Orientation Night for Get on Board, a board leadership program for seasoned, community-focused individuals ready to translate their skills, networks, and passion into meaningful nonprofit board service.

We welcomed our inaugural cohort of board candidates, along with nonprofit partners, for an evening of introductions, goal-setting, and meaningful conversations about what it takes to serve effectively on a nonprofit board.

Board candidates had the opportunity to connect, ask questions about board service, and begin building the relationships that will support their learning and growth throughout the program.

A big thank you to our nonprofit partners, JAGNevada, Helping Hands of Vegas Valley, HopeLink of Southern Nevada, Heaven Can Wait Animal Society, Jeremiah Program Las Vegas, Spread The Word Nevada, The LGBTQ Center of Las Vegas, NAMI Southern Nevada, and Signs of Hope for sharing your time, expertise, and perspective with our Get on Board cohort as they embark on their 6-month board leadership journey.
