This AAPI Heritage Month, we had the privilege of celebrating, connecting, learning, and building community across Las Vegas.

We kicked off the month at UNLV APIME Mini Con, celebrated the Las Vegas Aces Home Opener and Ring Ceremony, connected with professionals at our Social Hour Networking Event, supported meaningful conversations at RepresentAsian, enjoyed an incredible evening at Las Vegas Lights Football Club 9th Island Night, and gathered together for moments of friendship and fellowship along the way.

Most importantly, we were reminded that our community is strengthened when we come together to share our stories, support one another, and celebrate our cultures.

A heartfelt thank you to our members, volunteers, partners, and community organizations who helped make this month so special. We are especially grateful to organizations like the Las Vegas Aces and Las Vegas Lights FC for their commitment to celebrating and uplifting AAPI culture throughout Las Vegas.

This month may be coming to a close, but the relationships, conversations, and momentum we’ve built together will continue long after May. Join us for our events in June by clicking on the link below:

Thank you for celebrating with us. Here’s to continuing to build leaders and strengthen our community together. 💙

In this final clip from the AAPI Leadership Lab Podcast, Chef Rodney reflects on following your passion, embracing new experiences, and trusting where life takes you.

From DJing and skateboarding to art and culinary arts, Rodney shares that not every path is a straight line. Sometimes the things you love today become the skills and experiences that shape your future tomorrow.

His advice? Have fun, explore different opportunities, and don’t be afraid if your journey looks different than you expected. As long as you’re pursuing something you love, you’re moving in the right direction.

In this clip from the AAPI Leadership Lab Podcast, Chef Rodney Ignacio shares how a part-time dishwashing job turned into a career in the culinary world.

After joking with the chefs that he could cook just as well as they could, Rodney was unexpectedly given the chance to step onto the cooking line when a cook didn’t show up. He didn’t hesitate.

By becoming a sponge, learning everything he could, and embracing the opportunity, Rodney went from washing dishes to becoming the lead cook, all while still in high school.

A powerful reminder that growth often starts when we step outside our comfort zone and take a chance on ourselves.

NAAAP Las Vegas was honored to be recognized as the Nonprofit of the Match, and we are incredibly grateful to the Las Vegas Lights Football Club for this meaningful recognition and for welcoming our Board Members onto the field during the pre-game ceremony.

From the Polynesian performances and family-friendly activities to the delicious island-inspired food, custom aloha shirts, and post-match fireworks, the evening was a wonderful celebration of culture, community, and connection.

To top it all off, the Lights came away with a victory over the Colorado Springs Switchbacks! 🎉⚽

Thank you to the entire Las Vegas Lights FC organization for your hospitality, partnership, and commitment to celebrating and uplifting our community. We are excited about the relationship we are building together and look forward to future opportunities to collaborate.

Be sure to check out an upcoming Las Vegas Lights FC match and experience the excitement for yourself!

On this episode of the AAPI Leadership Lab Podcast, Chef Rodney Ignacio reflects on growing up Filipino, spending time between California and Hawaii, and how his childhood experiences helped shape the person and leader he is today.

Known as a “rascal” growing up, a nickname given by his mom that stuck with him for years (and even inspired his dog’s name 🐶), Rodney shares stories about family, culture, sports, and always finding himself in a little bit of trouble.

Sometimes the best stories and lessons come from the moments that shaped us early on.
