(Founders remove themselves from any association with Cup of Hope.)
Yes. Goodbye.
Over 4 years ago Valerie and I prayed about moving from Texas to Las Vegas to help start a ministry. The answer was obvious, GO. So we did. The ministry we thought we were moving to Las Vegas to help, failed…miserably. It turns out though, the ministry we were sent here to start, Cup of Hope, began.
In August of 2020 after months of struggle and prayer we went to our family and borrowed the funds to become a 501c3 and the ministry of Cup of Hope truly began. Thanks to those funds and the continued financial support and amazing volunteers, Cup of Hope was there for families and individuals nearly 50,000 times. From meals on the streets to homebound meal delivery to addiction help to rental assistance to housing for folks on the streets to tons and tons of free groceries delivered, Cup of Hope answered the call. All with one simple question, “How can we help?” No forms were required. No interviews. No anything, just what is your need and how can we help?
That question is based on the simple mission of Cup of Hope at the time which can be found in John 13:34, “So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.”
And that brings us to the goodbye. Over the last few months, particularly after my dad’s passing, Valerie and I felt called back to Texas. A calling that was just as strong as the one that led us to Las Vegas. The plan was for the current lead volunteers in Las Vegas to run Cup of Hope in Las Vegas, just like the lead in Colorado runs Cup of Hope Colorado Springs and possibly the same for Cup of Hope in Virginia as well. I was going to remain on the Cup of Hope board of directors to offer experience, mentorship and contacts for each location as well possibly launch Cup of Hope in Texas. (FINALLY!!!)
Unfortunately, that will not be possible. Due to (possible)votes, (possible)plans and actions by the controlling Cup of Hope board members, we cannot in good conscience be associated with Cup of Hope any longer. In fact, after prayers, the calling was loud and clear to both of us, LEAVE NOW.
As hard as it is to leave, we leave knowing that Cup of Hope was never really our ministry. It was God’s. Prayer and faith is what lead to so many being served, at best we were just stewards. Thank you to each of you for all of your prayers and support. Valerie and I walk away humbled and grateful for all yall have done for so many.
We’d ask the following, whatever happens with the outreach, no matter its name, please don’t associate it with either of us. The board of directors are now running the show. As well, if you hear things about us we'd ask that first ask yourself does that make sense please reach out we'd be happy to talk! While we won’t be able to discuss some specific things in detail, we will do our absolute best to answer any questions you may have. Please email us at [email protected].
Love yall, be safe!
Keith and Valerie Johnson.
