A private, non-profit corporation which attracts and manages private gifts and project funds to enhance the education experiences within LCPS.

The mission of the Las Cruces Public Schools Foundation is to serve as a private partner with the district to provide both public and private funds to the students and staff in the Las Cruces Public School District to support and enhance the educational experiences of students, promote innovation in the classroom, increase community involvement in education and pursue and recognize excellence in teaching and learning.

We are thrilled to introduce Lupita Barrio, a dedicated member of the Las Cruces Public Schools Foundation Board!
Lupita serves as the Administrative Assistant for Educational Equity and Support Programs at LCPS. Driven by a deep passion for helping teachers and students succeed, she loves seeing the incredible willingness of the Las Cruces community to step up and support education. 💙

After an amazing 32-year career with LCPS, Lupita is getting ready to embrace a brand-new journey in retirement! She is incredibly excited for this next chapter, new adventures, and the wonderful opportunities ahead.
When she isn't working, Lupita’s greatest joy is making memories and sharing laughter during quality time with her family. To unwind, she loves relaxing with a good Hallmark or Lifetime movie for some well-deserved me-time! Her biggest inspirations are her parents, whose strong faith taught her the importance of keeping faith at the center of her life.

2025-2026 Innovative Teaching Grant Recipients

Big congratulations to the 2025-2026 LCPS Foundation Innovative Teaching Grant Recipients!
We are incredibly thrilled to celebrate our outstanding Las Cruces Public Schools educators, administrators, and support staff who have been awarded Innovative Teaching Grants for this school year! 🎉
In the Fall 2025 cycle, the Las Cruces Public Schools Foundation, Inc. awarded 11 Innovative Grants totaling $28,072.33! This years total awards amounted to $30,000!
These funds will go directly toward projects and programs fueling cutting-edge, student-centered projects across our district—boosting engagement and inspiring our students to achieve higher than ever.
From unique hands-on experiences to classroom transformations, these grants support amazing work across multiple categories.

Thank you to our amazing educators for your creativity, dedication, and passion for finding innovative ways to help our students thrive. And a huge thank you to the LCPS Foundation and community partners for investing in the future of our kids! 💙

💡 Do You Know what the Las Cruces Public Schools Foundation Actually Does! 🎓✨

Many residents know about our schools, but do you know what the Las Cruces Public Schools Foundation does?
Established in 1998, the Foundation is a separate, private 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Its mission is to bridge the gap between tax funding and classroom needs by securing private donations to support public education.

Here is how the Las Cruces Public Schools Foundation directly impacts students and teachers in our community:
• 💡 Funding Innovative Teaching Grants: Every year, the Foundation awards competitive grants (ranging from $200 to $4,999) directly to teachers, counselors, and staff. This funding brings creative projects to life in STEM, literacy, the arts, agriculture, and educational field trips.
• ✏️ Classroom Supply Mini-Grants: To reduce out-of-pocket costs for educators, the Foundation distributes nearly $30,000 annually through $100 supply vouchers so teachers can stock their classrooms.
• 🎓 Senior Scholarships: Graduating seniors get a head start on their future through a unified application process that matches local students with a wide range of donor-funded scholarships.
• 🏆 Celebrating Excellence: The Foundation hosts the annual Celebration of Excellence Awards Dinner, ensuring our hardest-working teachers, principals, and support staff receive the city-wide recognition they deserve.

The Foundation acts as a vital partner for public education, ensuring our classrooms have the funding to innovate, inspire, and thrive.

Meet Las Cruces Public Schools Foundation Board Member, Teresa Tenorio, a dedicated advocate for our schools who has served on the Las Cruces Board of Education since 2020.
After hitting pause on her public health career to raise her children full-time, Teresa's path took a community-focused turn when she joined the school board right as the pandemic hit. Since then, her colleagues have nominated her to every single board office, including President, Vice President, and Secretary!
Teresa joined the LCPS Foundation board out of a strong curiosity to learn more about its impact, and she has loved working alongside such a wonderful team. For her, the most rewarding part of the mission is hearing the inspiring stories shared at the Celebration of Excellence in Education, as well as seeing the incredible ideas brought to life through the Innovative Teaching Grants.

On the Weekend you can find Teresa hanging out with her spouse and loudly cheering on her kids in all their activities—from theater, choir, orchestra, and band to karate and volleyball. She also loves catching live concerts, movies, and plays.
A fun fact about Teresa is that she owns a magenta pink 1965 Corvair (her high school ride!) and once drove all by herself from New Mexico to New York to head off to college.
💕 Teresa credits her biggest Influence as her older sister (by just 15 months), who serves as her lifelong advisor and closest confidant.

Meet Las Cruces Public Schools Foundation Treasurer, Miguel Ruiz!

We are proud to introduce Miguel, a Tax Supervisor at Beasley, Mitchell & Co. and a dedicated community leader. When this isn't balancing budgets or coaching his daughter's 10U softball team, the NM Batz, you can usually find him outdoors hunting and fishing! Born and raised right here in Las Cruces, Miguel has a deep love for this community.
For him, serving on the Foundation board is personal. As a former scholarship recipient himself, he finds true passion in giving back to LCPS students through our scholarship program, helping the next generation achieve their academic dreams. 🎓

✨As a huge sports fan, Miguel is currently gearing up for an exciting football season and looking forward to post-season baseball! 🏈⚾
When asked about his biggest inspiration, Miguel credits his wife of 18 years. Together, they have raised two wonderful daughters, constantly pushing and supporting each other to reach their full potential.

🎉 Meet Las Cruces Public Schools Foundation Board Member, Director Gregory Smith!
We are excited to introduce Greg, a retired published author and a familiar local voice you might recognize as a volunteer radio host on Cafe Con Leche on KTAL 101.5 FM! 🎙️
As a former teacher, Greg has always deeply valued the power of education—especially when it is innovative and impactful. For him, joining the LCPS Foundation was a natural fit. He finds true meaning in supporting and enhancing the educational experiences of our students, which is the very heart of what the Foundation does every day.
Beyond his dedication to education and the arts, Greg is also a champion athlete! He proudly took home a swimming gold medal at the 2005 Senior Olympics in Pittsburgh. 🥇🏊‍♂️Greg credits his parents as the biggest influences on his life, shaping the values he brings to our community today. We are so grateful for his diverse talents, his passion for teaching, and his dedication to our schools.

For Andrew, being part of the Foundation is all about creating opportunities. He firmly believes that everyone deserves a chance to shine. Reflecting on his own life, Andrew is incredibly grateful for the educational opportunities he received, and he loves watching local students thrive when given those same chances. Now, as a parent, he is excited to watch his own children grow and thrive right here in Las Cruces.
