Help NM TU’s Chase Gruber raise funds for Rio Grande Cutthroat Trout restoration on behalf of GRG-TU!
Chase is an engineer recently hired by NM TU and based in Santa Fe, who is working on abandoned mine remediation and other TU conservation projects in our region. Chase will be representing our GRG-TU Chapter in the upcoming Running Rivers “Flyathlon” to raise funds for Rio Grande Cutthroat Trout (RGCT) restoration in NM. The Flyathalon is a fun competition that combines trail running and fly fishing with some beer drinking for the serious mission of raising funds to restore native fish ecosystems, their motto is Conservation through Recreation. The Vermejo Park Flyathlon is happening July 10-12, 2026. The New Mexico Department of Wildlife and TU have identified several priority watersheds within the Lincoln National Forest here in southern NM as potential reintroduction sites for Rio Grande Cutthroat Trout, so this is a great time to show your enthusiasm for our other favorite native trout! Please take a moment to help support projects to improve habitat, remove invasive species, and increase watershed resilience in preparation for future reintroductions in NM with a donation to encourage Chase in his race using this site on the
