Chapter Shout out!

On the last day of finals, Elizabeth Dow presented her final project with class & diligence. Ms. Dow did a fantastic job sticking to her $1000.00 budget, in picking out a breed of chicken, buying a coop, bedding, feed, and other supplies to manage her flock. Ms. Dow also nailed her rubric, she had a great description on eggology and was able to explain embryonic development with ease.

Elizabeth Dow also went above and beyond the final project expectations—she included live chickens, actual feed samples, eggs, a chicken coop popsicle stick, and a photo book to go with her presentation.

Excellent Job Ms. Dow! We are so proud of you!

Chapter shout out!

Another one of our students, Paisley Knight, had $1000.00 budget to buy chickens, feed, shelter, tools and supplies to manage her flock. Paisley accomplished this and more with her excellent visuals! The trifold was required for her final project, but she went above and beyond with her additional visual aids, chickens, eggs, popsicle coop and show products.

Paisley Knight, is also a 4H member and has experience in raising, handling, and showing chickens. She was able to bring this experience to the classroom and demonstrated her knowledge to her fellow students by teaching them how to wash and show a chicken!

Thank you Paisley for your outstanding work, and for going above and beyond what was expected for this final project! We are incredibly proud of you!

Chapter shout out!

Carter black did an amazing job presenting his final
Project!

Students had a $1000.00 budget to buy chickens, feed, bedding, a coop, tools and supplies to manage their flock. Then type and create a visual to present their work. Carter stuck to his budget, and spent $900 on everything for a year! He strategically organized his trifold to display all his information correctly and wrote a script to help guide his presentation!

Carter nailed everything on his rubric and brought in some chicks to go along with his presentation as extra credit!

Excellent job Carter! Thank you for going above and beyond! We are so proud of you!

Parents,
Our 2nd period, 7th grade students, will be creating a project for their final exam. They have been aware of this project since this past Monday. They already have the rubric. They were encouraged to begin working on it at home. Today I am posting the rubric so you are also aware ahead of time for what I am looking for. They will have a full week in class to work on this project. May 22 is when they will present.

Our 1st Period, 8th grade students, opted in taking a 4 page muiltiple choice, fill in the blank, draw and label, and matching terms to their definitions test. (They are allowed to use all their binder notes and past assignments to help them on the test).

Hello all FFA members and ParentsPlease come join our end of the year banquet! 🙂We look forward in seeing you!

When a chicken consumes feed it first begins at the beak, then travels down through the esophagus. At the end of the esophagus feed is stored in the crop. Feed is stored there for about 12 hours and is soften, then it is slowly releases into the proventriculus (AKA: The true stomach). In the proventriculus is where actual digestion begins. Feed continues to soften and moves into the gizzard. The gizzard is a muscular stomach where the grinding of food takes place. Once the food is grounded it will pass into the small intestine. Digestion and absorption occur in the small intestine. This includes the Duodenal loop, jejenum & ileum. As food moves through the duodenal loop the pancreas releases digestive hormones & bicarbonate. Enzymes trypsin & chymotrypsin digest proteins. Amalyse breaks down carbohydrates. Lipase breaks down fats. The gal ladder then releases bike into the small intestine to help continue the digestive process. Feed continues to move to the jejunum & ileum where most of the nutrients from the feed are absorbed into the body. Finally the feed moves into the large intestine where most of the water from the feed is absorbed. Any feed that wasn’t absorbed is pushed out as excrement through the cloaca.

While chicks are close to hatching the learning continues! Today students set boiled eggs into food dye. They have been learning about embryonic development during incubation. As all embryos need oxygen to grow, the air cell in the egg allows the growing chick to breathe. Oxygen and carbon dioxide pass through the tiny pores of the egg shell. To demonstrate this phenomenon, tomorrow student will deshell the boiled eggs and check for food die on the albumen (the white of the egg).

Following, students will dive into the anatomy, nutrition, digestion and handling!
