One of the most rewarding things I hear from friends—and even people I've just met—is that, because of my work in crash prevention over the years, they made a promise to their teens: "If you're ever in an unsafe situation, call me. I'll come get you."
What makes me even happier is hearing how many of those teens actually made that call. Whether they had been drinking themselves or realized the person who was supposed to drive wasn't safe, they reached out instead of taking the risk.
Those calls may have prevented tragedies we'll never know about. That's why every parent should have this conversation before their teen ever needs to make that call.
